I just watched the reportage on YouTube with the only survivor from the California bar shooting from two days ago. He used a stool to help himself and survive but said he would've very much preferred a...
A stick? A table? A stool? A glass? A bottle? Anything can and has been used as a weapon in the past. America (and it appears Bulgaria) are uncivilised places where gun nuttery rules the roost. Australia is a civilised nation, where Gun Nuts are treated with disdain and their views ignored as being lunatic and pointless. Australia is a peaceful (largely) law-abiding society. We as a society decided not to go down the Wild West path after the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996. You are welcome to order your society as you see fit, Flektarn. Australia is not Bulgaria (thank goodness). You can be as neo-Nazi and as bigoted as you like - in Bulgaria. I pity the non-neo-Nazi Bulgarians, thats all.

Guns are not the issue Brian, For the most part there are more fatalities when guns are used , But if that guy in Melbourn had half a brian he could have taken a lot of lives
despite what our resident "expert" on knife fighting believes its not that easy for an untrained person to take out someone with a knife if they are a moving target. It has happened but if you will notice most knife attacks if fatal are limited to a single fatality.
And there is a good reason for that.
Most knife deaths involve a frenzied attack by an individual who is intent on his/her victim
You will find they are not, so much, knife fights as frenzied stabbing attacks.
Usually against an unarmed individual.

A knife fight on the other hand is different, but you wouldn't understand the difference.
The only way to defend from a frenzied attack, is exactly what the cops did, you back away so that the attacker cannot close.

Personally, had it been me in the cops place, as soon as I saw what it was, I woukd have just shot it in the face.
It might have lived and served as an example to other death cult members.
But that's me, I have no time for members of the DEATH CULT

Depends on the skill level of the attempted victim. Personally I would take the knife of the attacker and disable him, but that's me. I expect someone like yourself would be a bit hesitant to engage.

Police officers aren't vigilantes, neither should they be.

And also many saved.

Free people carry guns, slaves—don't. For hundreds of years slaves were not allowed to carry guns. You my friend are a slave. Nothing more. You have no say in politics because nobody cares about you, nobody is afraid from you. You are no one. You can't even protect your own home against an invasion by black thugs. You never felt freedom, you don't know what it is. If even someone gave it to you, gave you freedom, you wouldn't know what to do with it.

Gun ownership has always been a privilege in the UK and it's Empire/Commonwealth. It has never been a right. Only in the US is it a right. Even in Bulgaria, firearms ownership is not accorded the status of a "right". So, what does that make you, mate? A slave?

I can own a gun

I just chose not to.

I prefer a compound bow and killer slingshot.

When I lived in Sydney, a neighbour had 17 cats! SEVENTEEN BLOODY CATS! They wandered into every property to do their business. My husband made a slingshot and used it with little metal weight things (sinkers?) and aimed at the "pink spot" as these bloody cats passed through our property! He became a pretty good shot too. :rofl

One day, the neighbour cried on my shoulder that she had accidentally run over one of the cats when she was backing out of her driveway. So sad ... one less bloody cat! :rofl All the other neighbours were really really sad too. :rofl

I didn't know you can EDC carry a bow. What's next? Flak 88 anti-air artillery for self-defense?
