Yes. I see this a promotion to children.

As an adult I can see how Batman could be gay. As I kid it never occured to me. I just thought he was Batman in the comics and stupid in the series. Introduce the concept to children and we steal the innocence that is a childs imagination without the coruption of adult thought polution.

Must everything be about gender/sexual orientation?

I think sometimes, adults read a little more than they should into cartoons/comics.

Who cares if Batman was gay or not, since when did his sexuality have anything to do with the cartoon heroes/villains comic theme?

I agree with SN on this.

We could extend this.

Was Donald Duck a paedophile as he spent a lot of time close to his 3 nephews . Why did he make all three sleep in the same bed when clearly it was a big house. Why didn’t the comic talk about their parents. Were they dead, why where they living with Uncle Donald.
IQ, in Jughead was it Moose, the big guy with a girlfriend Midge? (pushing memories here)
Clearly Sabrina the teenage witches living with all her aunts were a pack a lesbos, they should all come out of the closet now.
He-Man is clearly gay and must come out by the power of Grayskull.
Shaggy from Scooby-Doo must be like the monk and has an abnormal relation with a dog. Never has a girl friend…. He needs to come out as a dog molester. Fred’s ok…. He is a normal man.
The list goes on………….

There are some interesting discussion around the web on this.

Image
While very few people seem to have any objection to it, religious indoctrination is worst when it’s aimed at children. Children will instinctively accept most information from parents and teachers. In some ways, this is for good reason. But in other cases, that trust is clearly betrayed. Chick Publications has a comic strip that does a great job of illustrating this. In a comic strip called Birds and the Bees, author Jack T. Chick presents some truly scary ideas, apparently aimed directly at children. Here’s are some excerpts from the comic strip (click on the images if they’re hard to see – the facial expressions and homophobic imagery will make it worth it).

I see that Freeloader has managed to scurry from yet another thread where he pops his head up to give support to a leftwing cause but scampers when he has been unable to show exactly why he supports it...other than its a leftwing cause.

I suppose he just backs them because he feels its his duty rather than actually thinking about the issue

It is not supporting the plot by demonstrating they have normal struggles interacting with the rest of us. It is not necessary for the plot. Have a straight girlfriend is normal (90% so). Have a gay partner is not normal (10%).
So, declaring a girlfriend is alright for male superhero's, but declaring a boyfriend is not? If declaring a girlfriend isn't sexualising, then either is declaring a boyfriend.

Because you know full well that is all it's going to be. No groping of genitals, no double ended fucking dildos , I doubt there'll even be any real kissing.

Perhaps they're marketing is changing to an older audience anyway. Do kids still buy comics like they used to?

boxy, you chose to deliberately bypass the point. The super hero problems fiting in to normal society by having him/her interact with what would be considered normal society and normal family settings. It is in the background in the story. By bringing in minority behaviour that is not normal for 90% of adults but is probably normal for 99% of children (they don't grow up in gay households) then you a bring an adult issue into the foreground. Why do that. You have not made a point to defend that.

I expect you are claiming that I am homophobic in my resistence to yet again another area of life that has been captured by the political correct nutters that promote a way of life to be nornmal when it is not.
nor·mal   [nawr-muhl]
adjective
1. conforming to the standard or the common type; usual; not abnormal; regular; natural.

2. serving to establish a standard.
I use normal as it is defined.

True, if it is a true comic. However as a young teenager your imagination builds on what you read.

Perhaps. I don't think they buy them like they used to. We have so much more for them to do these days. Computer games, the internet, facebook...

If they are trying to fill a new space in the market why not invent a new super hero for the market. They have already done so with on ofthe X-men becoming a Y-Man. Fine, new character. There is no need to change an existing supoer hero to be gay, kill of his sone and previous marrages. Why.... it is to shock and make it news worthy.

I expect Green Lantern to feature in the next Sydney Gay Parade.

Then you have missed reading about the best super hero.

Green Arrow is a mates of GLs.
Green Lantern is the name of multiple superheroes from the DC Universe, all of whom are characterized by a power ring and the ability to create solid constructs with the ring.

The first Green Lantern (Alan Scott) was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940).[1]

Each Green Lantern possesses a power ring and power lantern that gives the user great control over the physical world as long as the wielder has sufficient willpower and strength to wield it. The ring is one of the most powerful weapons in the universe and can be very dangerous. While the ring of the Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott) is magically powered, the rings worn by all subsequent Lanterns are technological creations of the Guardians of the Universe, who granted such rings to worthy candidates. These individuals made up the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps.[1]

e Guardians of the Universe, alternatively known as the Guardians or Oans are a fictional extraterrestrial race in the DC Comics universe. They first appeared in Green Lantern Vol. 2 #1 (July 1960), and were created by John Broome and Gil Kane.[1] Here they do not reveal their existence to Hal, bringing his 'energy duplicate' to them so they can hear of his origin. Before that their 'voice' was used in Showcase #23, when they told Hal via the Power Battery of an emergency on Venus.

Within the Green Lantern stories, the Guardians of the Universe are the immortal founders and leaders of the Green Lantern Corps, which they administer from their homeworld Oa at the center of the universe. The appearance of the male Guardians, modeled after then-Prime Minister of Israel David Ben-Gurion,[2] is elderly, short, and blue-skinned with large heads and white hair.
