IMHO it is regional conflict that has been going on since Islam arrived in the Indian subcontinent in the 7th century when the Arabs invaded and conquered Sindh and later arrived in Punjab and North India.
1947 Partition of British India made it worse.
China who has territorial disputes with India saw strategic opportunity and now helps Pakistan.
French see opportunity to make money and so does Russia plus India buys lots of Russian oil.
Trump has to be very careful there not to get embroiled in another conflict with no end in sight.
From our POV prolonged conflict between Asian giants take their focus from our direction but at the risk of big numbers of refugees coming here.
