While memetics is useful for explaining much in our world, it is inadequate to explain the handful of individuals who have had a sudden and permanent breakthrough in consciousness.

You should ask pierre. He knows all about the 'altered state of consciousness,' first hand. He has never suggested the 'breakthrough' was permanent, as he was, after all, on a budget. He will agree that it was 'sudden', and also disturbing in it's lack of final definition.

I think he might be the Deli Lama.

Oh, I made a mistake. Sorry, AiA. pierre is one of those who have no recognition here.

There ya go. I've fixed yer stuff up.

As for what I am 'blathering about', as I said, I have no idea, but pierre (you know him, don't you......he is on your 'ignore' list) but he does know about this shit if I read his posts correctly.

AiA in Atlanta wrote:"Are all great spiritual teachers of history liars, lunatics, or liaisons to an objectively real and attainable awakened state of human consciousness?"

Before you answer, consider this:

If you answer "they're all liars," what larger worldview is supported by this belief? Is there a grand conspiracy out there with shady individuals inventing false stories to gain social advantage of the naive?

If you think they are nuts, then are these glimpses into reality a psychotic episode, mental breakdowns? Answering "Yes!" here supports a worldview in which "sanity" is defined by adherence to the mental norm and the social status quo.

What if enlightenment is real? If you answered "Yes" then why make anything more important than awakening to enlightenment?
Loaded question. One would have to first explain what "objectively real" and an "awakened state of human consciousness" is.

Disagree. We are all intelligent people here. There is no "right" answer to this question. Whatever answer you give simply reveals a bit of your worldview.

Well, the Buddha is not a liar or lunatic. He deals with desire and how to control it: Very mundane and pragmatic.
Christianity and Islam is build on an unprovable metaphysics, hence it is built on lies and propounded by lunatics.
Epicurus' philosophy is also mundane and pragmatic; dealing with human happiness.

Examples of the type of people you are talking about?

Ask pierre. He knows all about this stuff. But, of course boxy, to do so would mean that you concede he is actually a real Member, deserving of a vote.
