they are not like the cheap no name pies that Coles and Woolies also sell.
You'd be hard pressed to make your own pies as good.
It would also take too long.

We had a really lovely roast, lamb shoulder, unfortunately however I wasn't impressed with the fat content.
Butchers old school, so I'll tell him on Monday, and guaranteed he'll offer me another piece.

He actually encouraged me to take best end, but me being me, went against his advice ( I would normally have taken) because my mum loves the shank, and I wanted it included. Regardless, I'll let him know what I thought of it, and he'll offer me another cut.

I'll show you a picture, but need to try a new way to insert it directly, has been so long since I've posted here, ( only returned recently) I actually forgot. Lol

Otherwise, meal was lovely, what's not to love about a family roast. Feeling grateful.

Sorry guys, forgot to take photos straight after plating up, fam were starving and due to the fat content all over my hands after trying to scrounge all the edible ( sweet as it was) meat from the joint, I wasn't keen to touch my phone to take pics in the moment. Lol

So that's leftovers....and we had fresh steamed beans and broccoli as a side along with just spuds and pumkin.

Gravy, and thick fountain mint sauce too of course.

Fresh fruit salad ( just a few fruits) and yoghurt of dessert, nothing flash.

looks good - you can't beat a nice roast dinner. :)

It's wasn't bad, just disappointing when it was the "crap end" of what he cut in half, had I realised that the end I chose would have been so fatty, I just wouldn't have got it.

Sticking with Aldi, at least what you see is what you get, it's not flash, but as far as value for money, consistency and transparency is concerned, I have no complaints.

Even my cat was peeved, he wanted 2nds too.
But what was left was too fatty for him.

Live and learn.... lol. :c

Oh, and dinner would have been just as amazing had it been baked beans on toast because they're here, come down to visit. Might make a nice soup tomorrow, going to be cold here, I mean colder than it was today lol
I think I even saw snow clouds this afternoon..... wishful thinking perhaps? ;-) Probably.

It's been an incredible week, finally after 2 years of severe pain, I finally got approval ( from government) to start new medication which will be life changing for Rhumatoid Arthritis, meaning we'll be back to hiking shortly. Takes a month to work- biologics!! Very expensive so government make patients try everything else first, including chemo, cortisone injections ( don't get me started on these)
Yuck!

But here's to new beginnings. Life changing beginnings, I have missed doing so much and this will be life changing for my little girl too. She has been blessed, we both have.

Just having soup and sour dough for dinner tonight, this recipe, though I am substituting risoni for pearl barley.

The tuscan chard can be substituted with any green leafy veg, but if you plan to use baby spinach leaves, be sure to just add them to pot before serving, just wilt them in so they retain their vibrant green.

I always serve this with sour dough buttered, fresh, or I butter slices then char them to toast on a char grill. But any frying pan or even toaster will do, just butter afterwards if using toaster of course.

Tip- lovely served with wedge of lemon and boy, do we have lemons lol. Enough to please all of Ballarat 😅...well, at least our suburb Anyway. I let anyone pick them because the tree is massive and prolific all year round. Even in cold Ballarat.
Have no idea what kind of lemons they are, likely a very old species because the tree is huge and at least 40 years old according to neighbours who were lived in street before us.

Hope you guys like this recipe, it's so nutritious and ridiculously simple ....it cooks itself.

Easily modified according to what you have on hand too, my mum has even made it with dandelion weeds, and I added wild fennel fronds to it a few times because it's so yummy.

Just remember to wash greens really well first so your gorgeous supper isn't gritty.
Also, wherever you forage for wild weeds, ensure it's somewhere the wretched council hasn't sprayed, and download a free pdf of your local areas edible weeds first, you need to be absolutely certain, some weeds are extremely poisonous.

Dandelion weeds are your safest bet if you don't own a Weed Forages Guide ( Australian edition) however.

Is anyone else here into growing herbs inside their home at all, in cute/quirky op-shop acquired containers of all sorts?

Looking for some fresh containers and container ideas for growing more exotic herbs inside because I'm fed up with the ridiculous prices they want for their half-dead herbs in Colesworths.
At the moment I have plenty of the basics, but I want to get into growing the more difficult to find herbs, because availability is an issue too.

Containers that look quite cute .... no old gumboots because space is limited in my kitchen in terms of windowsill space so may need to consider migration to dining or even loungeroom lol.

I just grow mine in the garden, although right now isn't the best time of year to try growing herbs. You can grow basil in a pot (although you're probably going to need at least a 20cm one) but parsley has too big a root system to grow in all but the biggest pots. Oregano and thyme can be grown in pots quite easily, needing pots that are wide rather than deep.
