Re: What's for dinner?
I usually make my own pies with the only pre-prepared bit being the puff pastry for the top (have you ever tried to make your own puff pastry? I mean, making your own shortcrust pastry is dead easy, but making your own puff pastry is almost setting yourself up for failure). My usual filling is curried beef, more often or not chuck steak, cooked until it is tender.
I also sometimes keep some shop-bought pies in the freezer in case I need something quick for dinner. Rather than supermarkets, I get them from one of the local butchers and, yes, they do make them in the shop and don't buy them in: https://georgesfinemeats.com.au/product ... es-2-pies/

No - I just buy them pre-made.Frances wrote: ↑Sun Jul 28, 2024 5:47 pmI usually make my own pies with the only pre-prepared bit being the puff pastry for the top (have you ever tried to make your own puff pastry? It's easy - 7 minutes on de-frost in the microwave and 22 minutes in the oven.

Which is more or less what I do with the ones I buy from the butcher, but sometimes it's more fun doing it from scratch.
I suppose I could buy apple pies as well, but I always do them myself. My shortcrust pastry is a bit more crumbly than what you buy from the shops, but I think it's nicer that way.

Served with little buttered dinner rolls and a little parsley.
Seems I failed when trying to insert image into this forum, but the link to where it's hosted works so I'm happy enough.

We will likely have leftovers tonight, in pie maker or jaffle maker.

I just picked up x4 Chinese BBQ'd Pork Pre-cooked boxes for just $7.50 each rather than $13+ with still months to go on expiry.

Great buy Jasin, extortionists is what they are, bloody grocery cartels. Need regulating. Colesworths.
I get a kick out of making food as frugal as possible.
My grandmother managed during the depression, so can we during our current recession we aren't supposed to know about.
