discovered ... mathematics exists whether you are aware of it or not

Counting would have started and arithmetic followed.

whether you can count or not, ten is always ten, two is always two ... you cannot 'invent' a number, you can only invent the word you use to refer to that number. Learning to count is the 'discovery

To my mind, mathematics is the exploration and investigation of all possible patterns. As such, it is a discovery process that uses rationalism as its primary tool.Super Nova wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 7:22 pmAge old question.

I should also add that rationalism invents the symbols and language necessary to understanding mathematics.Nom De Plume wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 6:55 pmTo my mind, mathematics is the exploration and investigation of all possible patterns. I disagree ... it is irrelevant whether you understand mathematics. Sure, it may make you feel good, but it doesn't change whats out there. It exists with or without your knowledge.Nom De Plume wrote: ↑Wed Mar 30, 2022 10:16 pmshould also add that rationalism invents the symbols and language necessary to understanding mathematics.

You are dancing around with with words, Smith resulting in confusion.whether you can count or not, ten is always ten, two is always two ... you cannot 'invent' a number, you can only invent the word you use to refer to that number. Learning to count is the 'discovery
See that sentence of yours, now in pink?
You have failed to tell us what 'IT,' is... only that 'IT' exist with or without our knowledge of same.
And, how do you know that 'IT' exists? What evidence do you have of 'ITS' existence and from where did that evidence come?
