our death rate of 1.1% so far - is much lower than France -
That is strange compared to France - now 17.5%
So - why is Australia's death rate lower?
We could have a different weaker strain of it here in Australia.
There are at least 8 strains already as of 1 month ago.
Viruses tend to get weaker over time.
A virus doesn’t survive by killing its host.
It survives by infecting its host and living that way to
pass it on to other people.
Every time someone dies from the virus - that virus dies too.
There is no evolutionary advantage from a virus killing its host.
We have large cities.
Melbourne and Sydney have about 5 million people each living in them or close by.

He claims that Victoria would have had
36,000 deaths at the peak if he did nothing to stop it.
We also would have needed 10,000 ICU beds
with ventilators which we couldn't get.
He has done what he thinks is right.
The death figures from overseas give credence to the models used.
e.g.
USA 42,517 dead
UK 16,509 dead

And we are only at the beginning.
Wait until it takes hold in India and Africa.
100 million dead would not surprise me.
If you want to compare countries you need to do it realistically and we will never get real numbers from India or Africa. Australia is listed at 3 deaths per million the same as China. Do we believe China?
Ever been on the subway in New York, Bobby?
No - I've been on the subways in Paris and London many times.
It seems that all cities with underground trains have been affected much worse
due to the virus being easily transferred in close confinement.

China will buy up Virgin airlines –
I also predict that China will buy up the whole tourist show:
hotels
motels
resorts
zoos
clubs
casinos
all while the prices are dirt cheap.
China will make a fortune out of this.
The Chinese will buy assets using shelf companies in offshore tax havens to hide the true owners.
The FIRB won't know.

Australia? We have over 85% of the population in the areas surrounding the coasts. In urban areas we are the second most densly urbanised society in the world after Hong Kong with approximately 90%+ of the population living in urban areas. Only Sydney has what you would classify as "mass transit". All the major cities have rail systems. Sydney's in the only one with a small section underground. The others are all above ground. Australia has one of the lowest population densities overall the United States, which is 31.27 persons per square kilometre, Australia has only 2.66 persons/km2.Texan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2020 3:47 pmHow common is mass transit in Australia? Brian - Melbourne has had an underground loop since the early 1980s.

Brian just tries to make things up as he goes. All major cities in Australia have rail systems partially underground but Sydney has a fairly considerable underground rail system which is being added to constantly.

My point about NYC is that the vast majority don't know how to drive a car. Only the super rich can afford a car in NYC. Millions of people are forced to swap germs. Just think of the hand rails alone.
I knew several people in the military who had to learn how to drive and get their first driver's licenses in order to qualify to drive on the flight line.

Yes, we are very different in that way as most people here do drive. That's why they keep extending the rail system to try to keep people off the roads. It isn't working as they planned though.
