Gee I don't know, Brian. Maybe, at least until this is over, we shouldn't be putting more of a strain on the economy and we should be spreading that money around here to help our own instead of abroad.

Have you ever considered that you can't sustain the whole world. Eventually, they will overwhelm you and you will be in the same position as them. If you want to help on a personal level, that's awesome. It's your money to do what you want with. The trouble with leftists is that they are always more generous with other peoples' money. When natural disasters happen, somebody gets all butt hurt because the US doesn't throw enough money at it. Then invariably, the American people through private donations give beyond anybody's expectations. That's how it should be.brian ross wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 10:34 pmWhy? Sounds rather selfish to me, Black Orchid. How is that going to help the third world and us?
The US is running at a deficit, which means they are borrowing money to function. Should we borrow even more to send to other nations? Should Australia send money to other countries when there are needy in Australia? Especially with all of the financial turmoil over this Chinese Virus.

BTW Try to withdraw money from a bank and they'll tell you to come back next week...….
Doesn't look good......

My son is having surgery on Tuesday. It is a private hospital and will be interesting to see if it goes ahead or is cancelled.

Reusable shopping bags are thought to harbour the virus and could facilitate its spread in grocery stores and supermarkets. Should we be abandoning anti plastic policies during a pandemic?
Do plastics bans in a state of emergency make sense? Should supermarkets be giving out single use plastic bags until this is over?

Wow - does that mean that the Govt. can just take your property?
Wow - that's extraordinary power similar to communism.
The Public Works Act provides the Crown with the statutory authority to acquire land for a public work. The Crown has the power to acquire or take land for a wide variety of purposes and may negotiate for the land in the same way as a private purchaser.

It would more accurately be described as pragmatism

I always reuse those bags anyway. We use them for kids' lunches and for small trash can liners throughout the house. I use them to double bag messy garbage. When servicing my cars, I put my oil bottles inside a bag in case I spill when I am refilling the bottle with the old oil for recycling.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:33 pmReusable shopping bags are thought to harbour the virus and could facilitate its spread in grocery stores and supermarkets. How often do people wash those reusable bags? I bet some of them are pretty nasty.

We have that here. Land is often bought by force for public works projects. Usually, it's a water pumping station or some other public service that can't be built otherwise, and that's fine. It has been abused in the past. The government has taken land from people to sell to other people or businesses with the reasoning that the new owner will be paying more in taxes and improving the city. We saw this with sports stadiums and it drove me nuts. Texas has now outlawed this, but not after Jerry Jones got all the land he wanted to build his stadium in Arlington, TX. The process of government procurement of land is known as eminent domain.BigP wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 3:00 pmWe have a piece of legislation here called the" public works act "Bobby wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 8:27 pmBigP wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 4:52 pmYes Bob, it does, You may be compensated for it.
