Peoples expectations change when money is involved, everyone isnt as pure as BO!

I just think everyone who was at the frontline should be offered the payment including pensioners, unemployed, or even on small SMSF funds in the interest of harmony within the ranks, otherwise I am sure some will get the sh1ts seeing themselves not being appreciated and leave RFS!

They should have the option of refusing it or donating it to the victims.

As far as volunteers from Overseas countries are concerned I think that would have to be left up to the government of the country they came from

The proposed payment is for those volunteers who are not getting paid by their employer because they are not "working". Public Servants already get some sort of payment, extra. Pensioners (Aged) still get paid their Pension. The unemployed are still getting their tax-free benefits. People who volunteer their precious time because that is the type of person they are, will still do so. Anybody who gets the shits because some people will get a payment, probably shouldn't call themselves "volunteers".

I am not so sure that Morrison is doing the right thing but guess he is still feeling guilty about his trip to Hawaii. Throwing OUR money around and if people get their knickers in a twist, so beit. However, those who do volunteer will do so, regardless.

People who volunteer do so because they want to. Money doesn't come into it. I volunteered (Meals on Wheels, Girl Guides, Aged Persons, etc) when I was young. I did it because I wanted to give something back to the community, not because I needed recognition or payment. People who volunteer don't usually advertise it. They just "do it".

Boost for Australia’s Aerial Firefighting Capability

The Australian Government will boost the country’s aerial firefighting capabilities by $11 million.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said this additional funding would see more specialised firefighting aircraft take to the skies to keep Australians safe this summer.

“In response to the request from our national fire chiefs we’re backing our firefighters and our water bombing fleet with an extra $11 million boost. That’s on top of the $15 million we already deliver each year for aerial firefighting to tackle what has already been a devastating fire season,” the Prime Minister said.

“Each bushfire season we take the advice of the states and experts about what we can do to keep Australians safe. As we continue into this hot and dry bushfire season we want to ensure our fireys get the aerial support they need and have asked for.

“We saw how useful our extra support was last season which is why we’re boosting it again this year.

“As we’ve said all along, my government stands ready to deliver whatever further assistance is asked of us by the states as they battle these devastating fires.”

Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the additional funding announced today would enable annual lease periods of firefighting aircraft to be extended and ensures the right mix and type of aircraft are available to protect communities this summer.

“We recognise the vital role that aerial firefighting plays in protecting communities, essential infrastructure, and environmental values, as well as supporting firefighters on the ground,” Minister Littleproud said.

“Once again, we owe a debt of gratitude to our career and volunteer emergency services who are out there protecting our communities in the face of very difficult conditions.”

“It is clear we are facing longer and more intense seasons, and as this summer has only just begun we have already seen devastating fires tear through communities right across the country.

“Sadly, bushfires are part of the Australian landscape and while we cannot always prevent them, we can prepare for them and ensure that we are responding in the most effective way.”

The National Aerial Firefighting Centre has more than 140 aircraft at its disposal to be directed to wherever they are needed. These aircraft, contracted on behalf of state and territory governments, are supplemented by additional state owned, and state contracted aircraft and other aircraft hired to meet peak demand across Australia. In total more than 500 aircraft, provided by over 150 operators, are available for firefighting across Australia.

ADF Continues to Support Firefighting Effort

ADF springs to the rescue

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) will increase its support to fire authorities, deploying additional specialist personnel to advise Incident Controllers at Fire Control Centres in New South Wales.

Planning will also begin for the recovery effort to access and clean-up affected areas, which could involve support from the ADF, if requested by NSW state authorities.

“This deployment will see Defence Liaison Officers positioned at all 14 Incident Control Centres in New South Wales with a list of equipment and support that can be made available. This will include bulldozers, bulk water carriers and troops,” the Prime Minister said.

“We’ll continue to do everything in our power to ensure our fireys have the resources and support they need.

“We’ve already got our Defence Forces providing helicopter search and rescue, ground transport, accommodation, meals and re-fuelling. We’ve boosted our support for water bombing planes and helicopters by $11 million.

“Disaster recovery payments of $23 million have also flowed to affected families and businesses with more to come.

“My Ministers and I remain in constant contact with our state and territory counterparts and fire chiefs and we stand ready to deliver whatever extra help they ask of us.”

Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. Linda Reynolds CSC said enhancing its liaison network will enable the ADF to continue providing extensive support to State emergency services.

“These additional liaison staff will embed with Fire Control Centres across NSW to advise their NSW Rural Fire Service counterparts and help coordinate ADF logistical and engineering support,” Minister Reynolds said.

“All three services of the ADF continue to provide significant behind the scenes support to firefighting efforts across the nation, including aerial fire reconnaissance; helicopter search and rescue; logistical support such as ground transport; providing meals for exhausted firefighters; as well as basing, re-fuelling, water re-supply, loading fire retardant and air traffic management for firefighting aircraft.

“Navy helicopters have helped with evacuating residents from their homes, Army crews have provided assistance with clearing fire breaks, while our Air Force bases are supporting the state Large Aerial Tanker fleet.

“This behind the scenes support from the ADF frees up more of our firefighters to perform their specialised roles fighting the fires.”

Minister for Water Resources, Drought, Rural Finance, Natural Disaster and Emergency Management, the Hon. David Littleproud MP offered his congratulations.

“This is another great example of how the bushfire response has been coordinated between all levels of Government,” Minister Littleproud said.

“They’ll be wearing two different uniforms but have one objective, protecting Australians and their property.”

The Federal Government stands ready to deploy whatever further assistance State and Territory authorities request to manage this disaster.
