Anyway NdP, how do you know that people who speak Mandarin or Japanese aren’t just as fussy about how their language is used? Does that make them yellow supremacists?
Indeed. Both languages have a formal and informal version due to court life of their respective royal dynasties.

I'm going to call bullshit on that article. I am a bit of a grammar Nazi, but only when the sentence is so poorly constructed, that the intended idea is lost, and polite assumption is impossible.

Meanwhile, I cant spell for shit! :rofl

It was 30C when I left home the other day to work in Oklahoma. I didn’t bring a jacket. The temperature dropped to 5C with lots of rain yesterday. I’m about to drive home in shorts and a t shirt. That’s all I packed. I have my electrical protection suit if I have problems on the road.
How did you go? And I see California’s on fire AGAIN. :OMG
I drove. It's a 4 hour drive from my house.

California is always on fire. They refuse to trim trees around power lines and remove and burn brush from forests because they are in a "protected animal habitat" and then the whole place burns up because they neglected it. Then with no vegetation, when they get rain they have huge landslides. Throw in earthquakes, race riots, high taxes, and illegal immigrants and California is a bad place to raise a family.

My son's high school band is competing in the Area Marching Band Competition. Winners go to the state competition.

I found a video of the band in the Regional competition. My son's saxophone solo is at 6:05 and he is on the podium on the 30 yard line.

Trying to read some online news and it just gives me a headache. Once upon a time journalists could spell or, if they couldn't, that's why they had editors. Nowadays? Sheesh!!

Two examples from just two articles ...
A 25-year-old man from Northern Island has been arrested and a murder investigation has been launched.
Ummmm it's Northern Ireland.
Chris was thought to be roughly ten-years-old and his careers believe he died of old age after showing no signs of being unhealthy.
I assumed this one was just a typo until in the next paragraph there was more of the same ...
The owners say despite being a celebrity for his fleece, his careers said Chris was more than his appearance.
It's an affront really!

You can say that again. It annoys the hell out of me. Sometimes I contact the ABC about the spelling on their news site. Where are the literate bloody editors?
Sorry BO and Hebe, but you two are example of white supremacy..

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/pro ... -supremacy

:WTF :WTF :WTF
No need to apologise. That article was about grammar. Most of this thread is about spelling and terms. Well, maybe I’m a “white supremacist “ given my penchant for good grammar, but I would have thought it’d take a bit more than that. Most of the grammatical errors I notice are made by white people anyway.
One should not confuse Grammar Nazis with White Supremacists , Im a Supremacist with poor grammar and you are a Nazi,, :smack

NEW YORK, NY—In an inspiring story from the world of professional cycling, a motorcyclist who identifies as a bicyclist has crushed all the regular bicyclists, setting an unbelievable world record.

In a local qualifying race for the World Road Cycling League, the motorcyclist crushed the previous 100-mile record of 3 hours, 13 minutes with his amazing new score of well under an hour.

Professional motorcycle racer Judd E. Banner, the brave trans-vehicle rider, was allowed to race after he told league organizers he's always felt like a bicyclist in a motorcyclist's body.

"Look, my ride has handlebars, two wheels, and a seat," he told reporters as he accepted a trophy for his incredible time trial. "Just because I've got a little extra hardware, such as an 1170-cc flat-twin engine with 110 horsepower, doesn't mean I have any kind of inherent advantage here."

Banner also said he painted the word "HUFFY" on the side of his bike, ensuring he has no advantage over the bikes that came out of the factory as bicycles.

Some critics say he needs to cut off his motor in order to make the competition fairer, but he quickly called these people bigots, and they were immediately banned from professional cycle racing.

I tried Red Hat a long time ago on a mate's computer and he had both Windows and Linux. Didn't like it. I don't like Microsoft either. The ONLY people I know who use Linux are OLD FARTS. Really OLD FARTS.
Image

I have used Linux now for nearly 30 years, Neferti. I started out with Red Hat, went across to SuSE, then went to Debian, Ubuntu and am now presently using Mint. I have used Red Hat professionally for most of that time. I have also used various flavours of Unix. All are subtly different. You are entitled to your opinion although it is obviously personally coloured. Was the command line a bit of a problem for you?
I started with DOS back in the 80s. I had a personal computer at home in 1984. They were still using typewriters (or word processors) in the offices. I enjoyed playing games like Leisure Suit Larry back then, plus a few other "adventure" things as did my daughter, who was about 9 at the time.
Plus I used to "key in" diatribes that a couple of friends gave me and save them to disk (and I used to charge $5 a page CASH. LOL) I didn't have a printer.
Then, when Windows95 came in (August '95) I bought a new PC (cost me $3,500) and joined the WWW at great expense - there were no "local" ISPs so I had to join Microsoft - browsing the "Web" cost me about $5 an hour and one month I recall having a bill for $300 plus. Yikes.
The Commonwealth Government at the time did NOT yet have the Internet and were still using CCMail - however, the Techie and I got on really well and he gave me various programs to "test" in my copious spare time at work.
Everyone played "games" at "lunchtime" most were "pirated" by some bloke who called himself a Canadian (but was really an American). I borrowed some to load on my computer at home.
I don't think you have any idea, Brian. So up yourself that you actually think you are superior to everybody else.
It is time for you to Smell the Roses.
Leisure suit Larry… I used to play that one!
