Oh well, I guess I have always been a bit of a grammar/spelling 'Nazi'. *shrug

Another pet hate ...

Seeing/hearing "could of" or "should of" instead of the correct "could have" or "should have".

I really hate that my phone keeps engaging auto correct when texting, even though I keep turning it off. There are so many words that sound the same ie where, we're, ware or their, there, they're etc and if I don't check before I hit send it can look like jibber jabber. To say nothing of what it does if I use the microphone instead of typing the text. It has a mind of its own and I hate it.

Trying to read some online news and it just gives me a headache. Once upon a time journalists could spell or, if they couldn't, that's why they had editors. Nowadays? Sheesh!!

Two examples from just two articles ...

A 25-year-old man from Northern Island has been arrested and a murder investigation has been launched.

Ummmm it's Northern Ireland.

Chris was thought to be roughly ten-years-old and his careers believe he died of old age after showing no signs of being unhealthy.

I assumed this one was just a typo until in the next paragraph there was more of the same ...

The owners say despite being a celebrity for his fleece, his careers said Chris was more than his appearance.

It's an affront really!

You can say that again. It annoys the hell out of me. Sometimes I contact the ABC about the spelling on their news site. Where are the literate bloody editors?

I’m just a common or garden grammar and spelling Nazi.

Grandparents are typically given their grandparent name by their oldest grandchild. We try to steer them, but since they are learning to talk, names like Meemaw come out. I had a Meemaw and a Mama Grace. I was Meemaw's oldest grandchild, so I guess I was responsible for her name. My mom is Granny. My mother in law is Maw Maw.

I'm Papa and my wife is Mama Shoog(Sugar). Of course, those could change once our granddaughter begins talking. She is 10 months old.

Love it Tex. so good.

These are traditions that need to be preserved.

It was 30C when I left home the other day to work in Oklahoma. I didn’t bring a jacket. The temperature dropped to 5C with lots of rain yesterday. I’m about to drive home in shorts and a t shirt. That’s all I packed. I have my electrical protection suit if I have problems on the road.

No need to apologise. That article was about grammar. Most of this thread is about spelling and terms. Well, maybe I’m a “white supremacist “ given my penchant for good grammar, but I would have thought it’d take a bit more than that. Most of the grammatical errors I notice are made by white people anyway.

Anyway NdP, how do you know that people who speak Mandarin or Japanese aren’t just as fussy about how their language is used? Does that make them yellow supremacists?
