I promise that she does wear her hair differently at times, but all you seem to see is her pony tail sticking out of the back of a ball cap like in my avatar. Oh well. Maybe some day you all will see how lucky I am.

We've had some good examples. My parents have been married for 55 years. My in laws were married for 69 1/2 years until my father in law passed in January. I think the key is marrying someone with your values and not considering infidelity or divorce as an option. We fight a lot, but there's a line we won't cross and making up is always nice.

I think I only have one friend who is still married to the original. That's a pretty sad state of affairs really. They say the danger years are 16 and 17. If you can make it past that you can make it to the end.

My parents and in laws were both married for life. It didn't seem to pass down to us though.

We are 2 months from 28 years. I need to start thinking about anniversary plans. Topping 27 will be tough. I took her on a helicopter tour of Dallas.

Values can change and many people don't pay enough attention to each other throughout the child rearing years to sustain a one on one with each other when the kids are independent.

I often think that we have children with a certain person because we need that combination to produce the children we do. They may not always be our life partners though.

So many people have 2 real partners. 1 to have their children with and another to spend the rest of their lives with. If they are lucky.

To have a true life partner all the way to the end is very special.

Our families are deeply religious and marriage is sacred. If my wife were to cheat on me, her family would disown her. The same goes for my family.

As an example, my brother’s wife cheated and left my brother after 20 years of marriage. If there had been a big custody battle, his wife’s father was going to testify on behalf of my brother. Her father was a deacon in my church when I was growing up and it breaks his heart to see his 3 daughters acting like tramps. My brother still has a good relationship with his in laws and he visits often to make sure they get to see their grandchildren.
