She is being tried on 3 counts of murder. The guy defending his home is free, as he should be.
In Australia the home owner would be
charged with 3 counts of murder.
In Australia, the law applies to everybody. In the US, the criminals have fewer rights than the house owners, Bobby. In Australia, the home owner must account for their actions before a court. In the US, the Police or the DA will decide if the home owner was justified.
Personally,
I am unsure why people are so frightened of facing the courts to justify their actions. IF they were right and IF they were justified in shooting the criminals, they will be cleared. If they weren't, they will suffer the weight of the law. Having the courts sort it out is much better than having police/public prosecutors sort it out and often getting it wrong.
" I am unsure why people are so frightened of facing the courts?"
Even if they win the case it will cost them their house in legal fees.
The justice system is not fair.
I pay $15/ month for legal defense , just in case I have to use my gun in self defense. I’m covered as long as I am in a place where it is legal for me to carry when the shooting occurs.
That's a good idea.
I don't think we have such insurance here.
I've never heard of it.

Depends on how much you value your freedom, Bobby. Is it worth more than your material possessions? I believe so. What about you?
Brian - you missed the point -
it's not fair that you can win a court case but lose your house.
It happens every day and is why I have no faith in the corrupt legal system.
You get what you pay for, Bobby. If you want to pay a shyster who works cheaply, why do you expect that you'll win a court case? As much as you might dislike it, the lawyers who win tend to charge large amounts of dosh.
The courts were created to answer legal questions. Whether or not you were justified in shooting another person is one such question. If you're not willing to face the courts, well, what can I say?
So, why does how much you pay equate to how much justice you receive.
This is the true criminality of the "justice" system.
In Australia, we have no justice system.
We have a legal system, so corrupt that it's in reality a criminal system.
Justice does not exist.
And it's only getting worse every day.
The courts are full of criminals, not the people being trailed, but the crooked cops, lawyers, magistrates, judges and the plethora of corrupt public servants living off the poor people looking for justice that they will never get.
The best way to get justice is to avoid the courts totally.

I never bothered until I got my license to carry. I carry everywhere legal and avoid gun free zones. The only regular exceptions are kid’s schools and on job sites. I’ve carried for 10 years and I don’t even think about it anymore. Phone, wallet, keys, gun..... It weighs less than a pound (.5 kg) and nobody has ever seen it.
My wife has carried for over a year. She is much more comfortable when she is out at night by herself. We don’t drink, in case you wondered, except maybe at home.
I don’t know if it’s the training or the seriousness of the responsibility, but we watch our surroundings a lot more than we used to. We’ve studied gun laws and joined a gun forum on the internet. It’s good to keep up with the law and talk to like minded people for advice on situations or equipment.
Back to the topic at hand. I carry a gun for the safety and security of my family. I will most likely run the other way if there is a mass shooter nearby. I’m not a cop and I don’t pretend to be one. I can’t help my family from a prison or graveyard. Why risk it?

So if you're at a school and a mass shooting
starts you can't help to kill the psycho?

Yes, but we usually have plenty of police at the school, especially at Friday night football games. Not so much at band concerts. My son plays saxophone in the band.

I worry about people who name inaminate objects. I had a girlfriend once who named her car. I find it a pointless exercise.
Now to your firearm. An interesting little gun. Barrel is a bit short - 3.1 inches (~76nn). What is the effective range for such a weapon? 10 metres? If I was to carry a firearm (which I won't be) I'd rather a Browning highpower 9mm. I know I can hit a target at 25 metres with that length barrel.

You won't need it Bobby 'cause you're not allowed to have a gun for self defence purposes. Australia a significantly safer country than the US 'cause we don't have widespread guns in our society.
