Maybe as Brian suggested, I’m looking too much at the process. The police won’t arrest me until they have evidence that I committed a crime. Defending my home is justifiable and the police may take my gun as evidence, but it’s rare that I would be arrested for killing a stranger in my house. A grand jury may review the case if the district attorney deems it necessary. In Australia, the police arrest first and let the courts settle it later. I just don’t like the idea of being arrested for defending your home. That can be expensive.

My wife and I have prearranged legal services available in case we have to use our guns in self defense. Insurance, if you will.

Robberies of stores happen but home invasions and car jacking are rare. Anyone who can legally own a gun in TX is allowed to keep it concealed in their cars. The castle doctrine allows us to use deadly force on anybody who breaks into an occupied home or vehicle. Deadly force is justified to prevent rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, murder, and arson. About 5% {1.4 million people}of the adult population have a License To Carry and can carry a gun in most places. Running around in gangs committing crimes will result in shootouts with victims and attract police attention. Violent criminals go to prison. Most crimes are crimes of opportunity by individuals or sometimes pairs. Outside of the cities, I suspect that life is like rural Australia crime wise.

Typical it seems for a Wild West society, Tex. Perhaps you need to actually teach your migrants how to behave, rather than ignoring them and treating them with scorn simply because they are "Mexicans"?

They just have to be a little more careful about choosing their victims. They usually prey on children, or other likely unarmed people. I avoid gun free zones for that reason. 10 years of carrying a gun and nobody has seen it yet. Works for me.

Is a dunny a restroom? Those are typically "no handshake zones" in America. There's always the danger that one or the other hasn't washed their hands and even if they washed, their hands aren't always completely dry and it's awkward.
