Southern Metro Region Crime Team detectives are investigating following a series of incidents across Melbourne’s southern and western suburbs overnight.
Officers initially responded to reports of an aggravated burglary on Pasadena Crescent, Bentleigh East about 8.40pm last night (26 May).
It is understood four males, one armed with a knife, broke into the home, ransacking the premises and making demands of the occupants.

Three residents were home at the time, including a 39-year-old man and 32-year-old woman.
Both were assaulted during the incident and sustained minor injuries.
The males then fled with jewellery, computers and handbags, and also took the victims’ black BMW.
Shortly after, the BMW was involved in a collision on the Westgate Freeway, where it crashed into a barrier.
As a car slowed down to render assistance, one of the occupants of the stolen vehicle exited and attempted to open the victim’s door.
The 45-year-old man and his 39-year-old female passenger managed to drive away unharmed.
The stolen BMW from Bentleigh East was dumped in the vicinity of this location.
Police were then called to an address on Anderson Street, Port Melbourne just after 9pm after reports of an aggravated carjacking.
It is understood a woman was about to put her child into the car when she was approached by three males, one of whom produced a knife and demanded her vehicle.
The victim, a 42-year-old Box Hill North woman, called for help and was assisted by a family member, a 40-year-old man also from Box Hill North.
He was also threatened by the males, who took off in their vehicle, described as a black 2012 Hyundai i30 with registration ZEX859.
The victims were not injured.
Police later responded to an aggravated burglary in Derrimut about 12.10am this morning (27 May).
On this occasion, four masked males armed with knives broke into a home on Ivy Close and were confronted by the occupants.
A 65-year-old man was assaulted during the incident and sustained a minor laceration. He did not require hospital treatment.
A 58-year-old woman, 91-year-old man and 64-year-old woman, who were also home at the time, were not injured.
The offenders stole two further vehicles, a grey 2010 Mercedes sedan registration XOB358 and a black 2015 Honda HR-V registration 1EY3DI.
The stolen Hyundai from Port Melbourne was dumped in the vicinity of this location.
Both the Honda HRV and Mercedes remain outstanding.
Detectives are working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incidents, however they are believed to be linked.
The males involved are perceived as African in appearance and the investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

And how many occur "nightly", Black Orchid? One? Two? A half a dozen? A dozen? Time to grow up and stop reading/watching your tabloid media. They sensationalise the crimes because it sells more papers/advertising time on the TV/etc
Sure Brian they spend all day play acting false stories

What the biased left wing media actually does is suppress the truth to appease their useful idiot arm flapping followers. If the police need help with apprehending a violent criminal they are more often than not tied in what they can print. Height, weight, clothing worn is about it. Saying they were black, asian, middle eastern etc is taboo because of people like you. Saying what ethnicity criminals are is not racist nor xenophobic. It's critical if you actually want to catch the criminal before they hurt someone else.

I live 30 minutes from the city centre. My suburb has had a near zero crime rate for the last two years. It doesn't even feature on the police reports. Guess who is better off? Me in "Podunk" or you on the North Shore, hey?
My suburb has a near zero crime rate too Brian. I have never once said that there is a high crime rate in my area because there isn't. The main crime in Sydney is in the west and south west as per my topic on same. Sydney is a big place Brian and consists of LOT of suburbs.

I think my views on immigration are very clear. We do NOT need anymore low-skilled and non-skilled hordes from third world countries.

Exactly. In my case its Hornaday Critical Defense 9mm ammunition , but the point is not to be “outgunned” and you bring your biggest response, even if it’s a can of hairspray and a kitchen knife.

Maybe as Brian suggested, I’m looking too much at the process. The police won’t arrest me until they have evidence that I committed a crime. Defending my home is justifiable and the police may take my gun as evidence, but it’s rare that I would be arrested for killing a stranger in my house. A grand jury may review the case if the district attorney deems it necessary. In Australia, the police arrest first and let the courts settle it later. I just don’t like the idea of being arrested for defending your home. That can be expensive.

My wife and I have prearranged legal services available in case we have to use our guns in self defense. Insurance, if you will.

Hi Texan - is Melbourne like Texas -
with psycho killers out on bail roaming the streets?
Murders happen in any leftist ran big city. The education system is a joke and Mexicans are taking over huge parts of the city. They don’t assimilate, speak Spanish, and live in cheap housing with 2 or 3 families. They work for cash, don’t pay taxes, and once they have a kid in America, they start sucking on the government teat. They steal or barter for anything not nailed down and move it South over the border for their retirement in Mexico, where the cost of living is very cheap.

The gangs are typically racial and of all races. Most support themselves by selling drugs. Most violent crime is in gang infested areas. Robberies of stores happen but home invasions and car jacking are rare. Anyone who can legally own a gun in TX is allowed to keep it concealed in their cars. The castle doctrine allows us to use deadly force on anybody who breaks into an occupied home or vehicle. Deadly force is justified to prevent rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault, murder, and arson. About 5% {1.4 million people}of the adult population have a License To Carry and can carry a gun in most places. Running around in gangs committing crimes will result in shootouts with victims and attract police attention. Violent criminals go to prison. Most crimes are crimes of opportunity by individuals or sometimes pairs. Outside of the cities, I suspect that life is like rural Australia crime wise.

We have a few of those as well. They just have to be a little more careful about choosing their victims. They usually prey on children, or other likely unarmed people. I avoid gun free zones for that reason. 10 years of carrying a gun and nobody has seen it yet. Works for me.

I'd suggest murders happen in any city, either run by the Left or the Right, Tex or are you claiming that Right-Wing run cities are crime free? Really?

I'll just ignore your racist comments about Mexican-Americans. They are foul and deserve no attention...

Typical it seems for a Wild West society, Tex. Perhaps you need to actually teach your migrants how to behave, rather than ignoring them and treating them with scorn simply because they are "Mexicans"?
