They are actually calculated on land value which does not include 'improvements' ie your house and other structures.
Not in Victoria.

It's based on the capital improved value =
land + house.

My comment referred to NSW...our councils must be dragging the chain, not to have a built in value hike, similar
to Victoria..strange they havent twigged to this...it would be an ideal way to rip more money out of us peons...

The people of Australia quite obviously understood them better than you!
Yeah, sure, Black Orchid. Being continually bombarded by the lies and scare campaigns of the Tories...

I reckon I understood the ALP policy platform a whole better than most of the Tories here did. Tsk, tsk.

You're such a lady, "Nicole". I suppose I could counter with something equally as crude. However, I won't. You have the field. Enjoy it, while you can.

The only scare campaign was in your head. It was their greedy tax policies that lost them votes

In Canberra, which has the Leasehold system rather than Freehold ... the Land Rates are on Unimproved Value of the Land. It used to be said that the Valuers made sure that the suburb they lived in never got a rise in land value.

We get charged Water and Sewage Rates from a separate entity, who also charges us for Electricity.

Remember that the ACT has a 2-level system of Government. Federal and Local. I see that our Andrew Barr (openly gay  ) Chief Minister (who had Rainbows painted all over the place) has promised 100% renewable energy or something.

Really? Did you notice any similarities between the Tories' campaign and el Presidente' Trump's campaign, Black Orchid?

The same negative, scare campaigns. The same over-inflated sense of self worth for the Tories. The same bullshit claims about Shorten and his policies. Gee, you could have thought you were in USA, not Oz, Black Orchid.

Just 'cause you were blind to them and saw them as being true, doesn't mean they were. Tsk, tsk.
