Preferential voting only works if voters list ALL of their preferences below the line. Most don't. Simple majority voting is the most preferred form of voting throughout the democratic world ... and for good reason imo.

You are talking about the Senate, Black Orchid, not the House of Reps. There is a clear difference between how the two voting systems work. House of Reps is Preferential Voting. Senate uses Modified Hare-Clark voting system. Time you realised that. How long have you been voting? Thirty plus years?

I dont like any of those runner ups they are all awful....

yet if I dont mark them my primary vote wont count...

how is that DEMOCRATIC????...

if I was voting for a local counselor or the president of the RSL or CWA

I would only need to vote for one person...

yet when it comes to GOVT

I AM FORCED TO VOTE FOR PEOPLE I DO NOT WANT...

its fine for those who thinks 2nd or 3rd best is good enough..

It's called Proportional Representation actually and is still preferential insofar as we have to make at least 6 choices above the line and 12 below,.
Candidates receiving votes in excess of the quota, which is a proportion rather than a majority of the total vote, have their surplus votes distributed according to their electors’ ranking of preferences. If all the positions have not then been filled by candidates obtaining quotas by this means, then the next preferences of the voters for the least successful candidates are distributed, until all vacancies are filled by candidates obtaining quotas. The end result is a constituency with several candidates elected, each representing a proportion or quota of the total vote.

No you don't. You make a preference against all the candidates in the HoR ballot and in the Senate you choose either above the line voting or below the line voting, Black Orchid. If you choose above the line, you make only one box. In below the line voting, you mark all the candidates according to your preference. You should have, by now, received a pamphlet from the AEC detailing how to cast a vote in this election. I recommend you read it.

Wrong again Brian! You mark a minimum of SIX above the line or TWELVE below the line. I suggest you do some reading
