I haven't experienced violent crime personally but times have changed. The demographic of Sydney has changed beyond recognition. I have 2 sons and both have had friends who have been the victim of violent crime.
It's very different to the Sydney I grew up in.
Right at the time I was doing a lot of clubbing was when Lebbo crime in Sydney was unchecked and out of control. I knew a lot of people who were badly assaulted, and we'd always pick our venues by which places had the least Lebbos.
The Lebs are still a problem it's just a different branch of them now.
Lebbo? Lebanese?
Remember when Castro emptied his prisons and sent the scum of Cubans into USA? Well the same thing happened with us.
During the Lebanese civil war, Australia, for about a few years did no background checks on the Lebanese we let in and they've caused havoc ever since.

Yeah Tax Lebbo = Lebanese.
We just shorten everything. Just expand on what the start of the word sounds like it should be and you'll be right. i.e. arvo = afternoon.
We have to shorten words to keep the flies out of our mouths.

That was a Tory PM, wasn't it, Gordon? Fraser IIRC. That a Tory would make such a mistake...

Texans are famous for adding abbreviations on top of abbreviations.
could not have = couldn’t’ve
Did you eat yet? = jeetyet?
You want to = yantoo
It comes out in speech more than text.

I never implied that you were, Gordon. I was merely sheeting home the blame where it belonged. You got a problem with that?
