"Equality" is not about things being completely equal, Reboot. It is about making things nearly equal. Thugby and Aussie rules are full contact sports. Players with bigger bodies will always have the advantage in both male and female versions of the sports. Perhaps you just want slender girls to play such sports?

As that is Basketball, what is desired is greater height. She appears to fit that bill rather well, don't you think? Basketball was, the last time I checked a "non-contact" sport. Greater body mass plays little part in how the game is played, Black Orchid. Again, a rare event, I think you'll find and it has been matched by women who are also as tall...Black Orchid wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:17 amHow this can be termed 'equality' or 'nearly equal' goes beyond comprehension.brian ross wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2019 1:06 pm

Thanks, Sprint. I seem to recall your name from a different blog that Black Orchid once belonged to, am I right?sprintcyclist wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 11:13 amThe4thEstate wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 12:33 amWell stated, Orchid.Black Orchid wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2019 12:20 pmNo-one has a problem with transgenders competing in sport, Brian, least of all me. No-one has even suggested such an absurdity, other than you.
I have a problem with transgenders competing in WOMEN'S sport. They are taking college scholarships, designed to help women, away from women. They are taking wins in WOMEN'S international sports away from women along with the life changing benefits that go with that.
Women have a smaller lung capacity, a man's leg has about 80% muscle as opposed to 60% in a woman, women have 20% less blood volume, women's cardiac output is 10% less than a mans, men have more lean muscle mass, men have 40% more muscle mass in the upper body and 33% more in the lower body. So no matter how much you spin your twisted "transgenders have overcome evolution" line a dress, a wig and a few hormones does not a woman make!
What they do in their own time I care not but I object to them taking away incentives/scholarships designed to help real and under privileged women who might otherwise never have the opportunity to advance. I would be all for a transgender category in sport but I will never accept muscly transgenders competing against women.
As you noted, the problem with accepting biological males as female athletes -- whether or not they've undergone surgery -- is that it shortchanges girls and women in the long run.
I saw a TV interview with an accomplished female high school track star who missed a chance to advance to her state track championship because two transgender athletes outran her. That could very well end up costing her a college scholarship, since she'll no longer have the opportunity to compete in front of the college track coaches and scouts who attend the finals.
I also have a problem with the squishy definition of transgender as currently applied. At least on my side of the pond, it can apply not only to a person who's undergone surgery, received hormone treatments, etc., but a person who simply "identifies" as the opposite sex. And that's problematic for me.
I mean, look, a biological male can put on a dress and call himself Gertrude for all I care; just don't expect me to stand idly by if he tries to enter the restroom, shower room or locker room of my 13-year-old niece. Really, how do we tell the difference between a man who truly wants to be a woman ... and a sicko who'll put on a wig and makeup just for the opportunity to watch little girls change clothes and shower?
As for athletes, it could reach the point of absurdity. What if the WNBA -- the women's professional basketball association in the U.S. -- decided to accept anyone who merely "identifies" as female? How ironic that a league created to provide greater opportunities for women could instead start fielding teams consisting entirely of biological males.
And I wouldn't put it past a few male basketball players (who weren't good enough to play in professional men's leagues) to claim transgender status as a way of making better money than, say, driving a truck.
Good postings, both of you

You checked wrong. Basketball is anything but a "non-contact" sport, as anyone from Indiana could have told you. Try pulling down a rebound under the boards and you'll discover that your opponents don't say "please" and "thank you" much.brian ross wrote: ↑Tue Apr 30, 2019 12:43 pmAs that is Basketball, what is desired is greater height. [Source]A (full) contact sport is any sport for which significant physical impact force on players, either deliberate or incidental, is allowed or within the rules of the game.

Limited-contact sports are sports for which the rules are specifically designed to prevent contact between players either intentionally or unintentionally. Contact can still happen, but penalties are often used to disallow substantial contact between players. These penalties, including physically removing players from the field of play, mean that contact is moderate or rare.
Examples include basketball, association football, baseball, softball, field hockey, women's lacrosse, netball, korfball, Floorball, polo, ultimate, bandy, dodgeball and underwater hockey.
May not be how the sport is actually played but it's rules penalise contact between players...

I played "Basketball" when I was a teenager. I was the Captain of the Team and Defence Goalie. Got the Best and Fairest too. I am not a 6 foot female. I could just "jump higher". LOL
Then they changed it to "Netball".
I also played a variety of sports at school. Got through my teenage years without smoking cigarettes, drinking, taking drugs or having sex.
