Every country has the right to allow or bar anyone from entering their borders.

No country, which is a signatory to the UN Convention on Refugees, has the right to deny Asylum to any applicant. Both the US and Australia are signatories to that Convention. Time to accept our responsibility under that Convention.

They claim they are fleeing crime and lawlessness, BigP. Both are IMO good reasons to claim to be a Refugee and seek Asylum in another country. Under the UN Convention there is nothing about "country shopping" or anything else which can be used to prevent an Asylum Seeker claiming Asylum.

Countries have signed onto the UN Convention. They have said they will provide Asylum to those that seek it from them. There is provision, once signed, to withdraw from the Convention. No country that I am aware of has. However, countries withdrawing have to consider what message that sends to the world. Do they really want to be considered the same as the countries which have not signed the Convention?

Despite what some people claim, the UN is not a Muslim run organisation. The UN Convention was created in the aftermath of WWII when refugees were routinely denied entry into another country. Look at the history of the US. It denied entry for MS St. Louis, an Ocean Liner of Jewish refugees from Germany, before WWII began. They were also denied entry to Canada and Cuba. In the end, they were forced to sail back to Germany and internment in the Concentration Camps and eventual death. Not a nice thing to occur to innocent people who's only "crime" was to worship a different God to the majority.

I do not own a firearm, nor do I normally need to own one in Australia as I am extremely unlikely to ever be faced with a situation where I would need one. Short of a submachine gun, personally I cannot see a means of preventing them gaining access to my house, Cods.
