TRAVELLING in is a lot different to LIVING IN...
and yes I am a firm believer in that old saying..
lea\ne the language for starters..... wear the dress code......respect the LAWS..
I swapped marmite for vegemite. its not hard..
my daughters mother in law still only watches Portuguese TV and news....after 44 years...her English is so broken you have to really concentrate..
shes a lovely lady but if they had a national dress I am sure she would be wearing it...lol...
accept you have chosen to live in a foreign culture....become part of it...

I notice all eight people who have voted "yes" to "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" have studiously avoided this point. Fit in or fuck off not applicable to whitey huh?Raven wrote: ↑Tue Aug 07, 2018 9:46 pmThere is certainly an argument for "when in Rome"Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 6:05 pmBut that didn’t apply in 1788?Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 4:39 pmWhen in Rome do as the Romans do?
If that means assimilating, speaking the language, mixing with the locals and generally fitting in to the culture you have chosen to adopt?
Yes!!
Over Two hundred years ago a bunch of boat people came to these shores and they had absolutely no intention of "doing as the Romans." In 60 short years they nearly eradicated the culture of the people who were here first.
Perhaps what is good for the goose is indeed good for the gander.

Good point, but us whitey's came here to conquer, not to fit in.
I guess no-one likes change and Australia will change to be non-white, not to us whitey's liking. Do you have your burka ready and pressed for you next outing into the public.

Can we blame aboriginal people for the same when they fly the flag and want sorry days and a treaty? I smell hypocracy.

Well Nicki you're probably not going to like me .. too bad, so sad - because I grew up with all that left wing shit it appears you believe in, and if I was dictator all you destroyer of Western civilisation commies would be in a purpose built concentration camp in Antarctica. I was signed up to the ALP against my will in one of my mother's branch stacking efforts at age 16, and in my 30s was a delegate to Qld greens state council and state conference for 5 years running, so I know all your ilk's language and agendas. Which I take a dim view of, particularly the destruction of education and perversion of history.Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 3:52 pmMy word for what? At this point I’m just asking a question concerning a phrase which gets bandied about when it comes to migrants: particularly Islamic migrants.
Now it just so happens one of my ancestors was a Pashtun camel driver brought to OZ by the Brits from northern India (now Pakistan) who was a Muslim (meaning I'm distantly related to the Taliban). The Pashtuns known as Afgans were not trusted by those in OZ at that time but were accepted because they served a purpose (transporting food to remote outback communities by camel).
I grew up believing in giving everyone a fair go in a place (Engadine)) with no ethnic dramas because we had very few ethnics at all. I worked with Muslim employees of my father and had a mag wheel repair business where roughly half my customers were Lebanese Muslims, and that has given me the opinion that Islam should be prohibited in OZ and all its devotees deported - just a bunch of sleazy inbred trouble makers.
Growing up in the 80s OZ seemed like a nice and reasonably safe place ... now its cities are dog eat dog and ridiculously over crowded ... I saw it coming so moved to the bush thinking "it'll take 30 years for civilisation to move in on me out here" ... but now our pro mass migration govts are encouraging these anti-Australian blow ins to move to the towns and regional cities I have to go to get supplies from, so now the wog problems are everywhere.
I don't mind if you don't wear rubber thongs and eat meat pies but if you want to wreck my country, you should be prepared for a public fascist backlash, not unlike how Hitler came to power. So to Australianise 'When in Rome do as the Romans do' the phrase "Australia - Love it or leave" seems quite apt here.
And you're ignoring the history of humanity.Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 6:05 pmBut that didn’t apply in 1788?Black Orchid wrote: ↑Sun Aug 05, 2018 4:39 pmWhen in Rome do as the Romans do?

Yes!!
The 1st people in OZ walked here during the last ice age some time between 100,000 and 30,000 years ago. They were quite primitive and distinct from any other human sub species. We only know of their existence because of the Lake Mungo skull.
The 2nd migration also walked here probably around 10,000 years ago, but certainly prior to 7,000 years ago when all the land bridges (Australia-Tasmania, India-Sri Lanka, Europe-Malta) collapsed. These people had short stabbing type spears like Neanderthals, but unlike Neanderthals could not light a fire.
The 3rd migration walked from India and Burma across the remnants of the land bridge from PNG between 5,000 and 4,000 years ago, bringing the dingo with them. They displaced those we knew as Tasmanian Aboriginals and their dingos wiped out Thylacines and Tasmanian devils from the mainland. These people had long throwing spears aided by woomeras, boomerangs and could light fires. The reason many place names in Burma (eg Irrawaddy River) are similar to Aboriginal named places in Australia is because they came from a common language.
When the Brits came here and took over the local inhabitants got the best deal going of a world awash with colonisation (which has been going on forever) because The Brits were the inspirers of 'a fair go for all' (despite its limited use) and were already opposed to slavery.
If the French had moved in the frontier wars would have included American style scalping. If the Spanish or Portuguese had taken possession the Aboriginasl would have become gold mining slaves. If the Dutch had taken over Apartheid South Africa would still exist and Australia would be its best ally.
So when I'm drinking with blacks and their women who can't handle their plonk start with the black attitude "All you white fluffy bunnies .....".
I just reply "Hey! .. I acknowledge your mob copped a raw deal, but it's not my fault. I was just born here".

That's the problem with you lefty destroyers of civilisation .. you deliberately ignore and distort history.Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 7:23 pmIn 60 short years they nearly eradicated the culture of the people who were here first.
The people who were here first were long gone tens of thousands of years ago.
Unless you're a self loathing left wing hypocrite who always point the finger at others as a distraction from their parasitic victim entitlement syndrome.Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 7:23 pmPerhaps what is good for the goose is indeed good for the gander.
No, the "Fit in or fuck off" mantra is the typical mind set of vegetarian communists these days.Mistress Nicole wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 7:23 pmI notice all eight people who have voted "yes" to "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" have studiously avoided this point. I'm a white mongrel made up of 5 different nationalities, and when you commies' desired fall of civilisation comes I'll be able to hunt you with pig dogs.
