Aussies have volunteered for every war since Australia became Australia. Our Boys (and Girls) didn't wait for some country to threaten us, like the USA did, "we" went in, boots and all and did our bit. The only time we have had conscription was for Vietnam, another War that the Yanks got into and then expected Aussies to follow ... I still loath that war and why we let so many young Aussie males get killed for nothing!
Last I heard "we" had ONE troop in Afghanistan (or was it Iraq?) ... whatever ... we sent some poor bloke because the Yanks wanted our "involvement" ... (George Bush era)
Our Aussie SAS are just as good as the Yanks equivalent. We do a lot of Peacekeeping. We are not war mongers.
