In a prison here in SA someone knew what Vegemite is, autolysed yeast cells. He figured there might be some live yeast cells in it so dissolved his V ration in a glass of water to which some sugar was added and sure enough, found some live yeast and started making prison hooch!

Of course, you can actually get a yeast culture just exposing a growth medium--sugar water--to air.

No wort, wasn't making beer. Fruit juice most likely, fortified with cane sugar. Yum I am sure, NOT! But vegemite is still banned at that prison
