It's not the norm because, in my opinion, they don't have an inspiring and authoritative personality to take the helm.
Neferti~ wrote:The General Public really doesn't care or take notice of this stuff, but .... when it comes to Election Time, they do listen and watch what is being said about "personalities".
I don't agree. After the Rudd/Gillard debacle I think the general public is taking more notice than ever.
Neferti~ wrote:I have never met Tony Abbott (nor John Howard) but Tony comes across as a genuinely nice family man. He's a catholic and I am an agnostic but I wouldn't hold that against him.
So does Joe Hockey. He's my local member and I have met him several times. He's a lovely man but I think he would be a weak PM and wouldn't be my first choice. I was born a Catholic but care not for any religion. Abbott does have a tendency to get bogged down in it though and I don't like that.
Neferti~ wrote:I tend to agree with Mantra that his daughters look rather "horsey" but they are decent kids. His wife still works (childcare), she doesn't show up to wave to the crowds at photo-ops, like the Rudd wife and family did and we can't forget Gillard's "beard" lapping it up at every opportunity. Man's Shed anyone? What happened to that?
I prefer not to judge people on their physical appeal or that of their family.
Neferti~ wrote:OK, so Tony has been making decisions (as PM) without consultation? Who said that? He would have, undoubtedly, passed/discussed his ideas to his Deputy (Bishop). Many people don't understand the hierarchy in the public domain. There are unwritten "rules".
Prince Duke Sir Phillip ring a bell? From what I have read he did not run it by anyone other than Credlin. Perhaps he has a chance if he sends her packing.

When I voted for my local Liberal candidate at the 2007 Federal Election, I was not thinking about who would be PM. Abbott was the supposed "head kicker" in the Howard Government but an unknown quantity. When he became PM, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He certainly hasn't been what I would call "inspiring". Nor has Joe Hockey for that matter.

I went to a Church of England Girls Grammar (CEGGS) in Brighton, Melbourne. Same place that Therese Rein went to.

My former husband went to Scotch College in Hawthorne, Melbourne. Lots of interesting people went there.

Politicians are just that. Politicians. They get into politics for the very reason that they have the "gift of the gab" and I doubt that any of them enter politics to do something for Australia. It's all about them/me.

Credlin needs to have a leg rope applied. Trouble is her husband. They are a "team" and Tony fell for it.

Bringing back the Sir/Dame thing was pathetic. Handing it to Phil the Greek was plain stupidity.

Abbott could knight Ivan Milat and still be more palatable than the rapist. If they get the arse the next election so be it but when the country shoppers are flooding in debt goes ape shit unemployment heads north and small business and paye Middle income earners are being taxed into oblivion I'll be able to still say I didn't vote for the cuntz. Box Peccary Manta and their malingering ilk will be able to afford a few more channels on the dole dish though. So that's good :thumb

Just watch the massive influx of boats as soon as they hear the ALP are back in. They are already waiting for the starters gun.

It will be open for business again for people smugglers and they will be drowning all over the shop and once again we will have to listen to the bleeding heart lefties trying to convince themselves that they can't be stopped and Sarah Crying Two-Dads will shed tears over another tragedies-happen, accidents-happen that she caused.

I hate to say I told you so but honestly Abbott was never the right option. The majority of Australians are centrist not left or right.
I think Abbott will survive Tuesday but he won't survive the year. The party's best chance of holding power is dump him now the longer it goes on the more dismal it becomes, ask Labor.

You'll never get anywhere with this crowd. Anyone left of Gina Reinhart, or the toadies who lick her taint, is the enemy. They're nothing like the majority of Australians, and have no idea what they want.

Kinda like Tone... he seems to think that Australians want a royal knight... FFS? How out of touch can a politician get, with his constituents?

He's the best of a bad bunch would you say Skip?

I mean, if not Abbott, then who?

And if not Liberal, then what again?

Labor?

No really, Labor?

How about we stop insulting Australian voters and for once, at least give them what they asked for, better or for worse, it was our choice.

We are tired of the sideshow .. we need stability and continuity.

The Liberals are running the sideshow, Mel. As for the Australian voters they haven't wanted Abbott since six weeks after he was elected as PM. In fact they never wanted him, they just wanted to give Labor a boot up the bum.

I think you'll find Abbotts not going anywhere and will most likely win the next federal election.

Something to look forward to.
