AMERICAN TV news networks have made a series of embarrassing stuff-ups in their coverage of the search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Over at Fox News, a graphic placed an unusual emphasis on Port Hedland and the Pacific Ocean became the Coral Sea.

Oh come ON guys.

The boffins at CNN last night placed Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, in Indonesia.

It didn’t stop there. This morning a reader sent us this egregious error posted on CNN’s website yesterday.

News.com.au has kept a keen eye on American TV news coverage of Australian geography recently.

CNN accidentally said Auckland was an Australian city during its 2014 New Year’s Eve coverage.

And during the NSW bushfire crisis last year NBC published this map showing the entire nation engulfed in an apocalyptic inferno.

They sure aren’t ‘on fire’ with their general knowledge.
Basically the whole country was burning to the ground, NBC said.

My favourite taunt when I travel and come across a Kiwi that gets upset if they are called Australian is to remind them that we consider them a second class state of Australia. Really pisses them off.
