Mattus wrote:Oakes is the best political journalist this country has ever had. From the Edward Murrow school of journalism, he wears his bias on his sleeve. It takes nothing away from his journalism. On he contrary, it is refreshing honesty in an industry which is obsessed with presenting itself as fair and balanced, when it is anything but.
To suggest that Oakes has had his head in the sand about the inevitable political Armageddon that the alp faces is demonstray wrong.
This article from February gives brilliant imagery of how the alp party room is preparing for the reaping.
Oakes has been cheer leading for the ALP instead of reporting for years. Showing one article from as recently as Feb when the position in the polls has been steadily bumping along the bottom for 2 years is a bit rich, but to be fair to Oakes he just suffers from the mindless group think that plagues most of the journalistic class
The list below shows the negativity directed at the opposition from the journalistic elite including Oakes and I bet you would struggle to find any, if at all from Oakes that details the problems with the ALP. Even that Feb article is about what they can do from opposition. I'd like to see him write on how he thinks they ended up where they are now but that probably won't happen until after the election because in Oakes mind, there's still half a chance that he can contribute to penning a "gotcha" that will turn the election around and confirm his self aggrandised view of 4th estate entitlement.
