Forgive me for not sounding too excited but it feels like we've been hearing this for years, but it never happens.Jovial Monk wrote:And regulatory reforms also in the pipeline:

Rudd turned this in to a big deal with an 8 30 press am conference this morn saying its the biggest infrastrucure build in oz history, bigger than the snowy, so it better go ahead if he wants to keep any cred, lots of people have been talking about a major project to help the economy, but is this really it?
Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
Yes well let's hope that the Chinese aren't the major investors. They would love to get their hands on this. Just think if this money had been put into Telstra, instead of it being sold off - we would possibly have one of the best broadband services in the world. Instead - we're starting all over again and taxpayers will have to pay twice. It's a great idea, but will it be "Australian owned"?Jovial Monk wrote:And regulatory reforms also in the pipeline:

Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
Tax payers will put in $4.7Bn then later sell its share of the company so the tax payers will win big time!

Poss, where were the News Services when you need them. We are the News Service.
And with 100megabits (but lets be realistic here, by the time it’s rolled out it probably be gigabit) - the media, ALL MEDIA will change forever.
We’re talking IP-TV with full interactivity.
This means, for instance, that for the 2013 election we’ll be streaming video live from the blog covering every electorate in the campaign, following every local announcement in real time with an army of readers/viewers sending in quality video from their phones as it happens.
Media will never be the same again.
Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
Even Telstra welcomes the FTTH proposal, as does Optus. Nuts claim it was their idea.

Re: Fibre to the Home very fast broadband proposal
Yes - and the largest amounts of $200,000 going each to Australia's 3 wealthiest private schools. From there it goes backwards down to $60,000 - no doubt these lower amounts for public schools. Julia Gillard (although she has seemed OK) believes that these large amounts given to private schools will generate work - so why wouldn't these large amounts generate work from public schools?Jovial Monk wrote:Money for schools (this is only the biggest spend on schools in Australian history)

Why if we get this thing up and running will the Government want to sell it? It's going to take 8 years and will this technology even be up to date when it's finally completed. We've also got to ask - do we really need super fast broadband?Tax payers will put in $4.7Bn then later sell its share of the company so the tax payers will win big time!
