Yes, they are considered extreme even by many regular Christian evangelicals, because the Mormon beliefs about Jesus are not Biblical, and because the Mormons wrote another bible for themselves, the Book of Mormon. To regular Christians, that isn't Christian.
Yes Annie I know that so do most Australians I’d think, I even read their book quite a few years ago… we get them here too. But, I’d think most Australians see them as
“mostly harmless” not as dangerous “extremists”.
But take note of the Republican figures in the poll, obviously they favor creationism more than the Democrats.
But the Dems in a large percent share those beliefs Annie.
God created humans in present form within the last 10,000 years...
Reps... 58%
Indies... 39%
Dems... 41%
Still they are gaining momentum somewhat. Here today, mainstream Christians (not necessarily creationists) fall by the wayside in the wake of fundamentalist Christians in the media.
Well I’m not arguing religion per se here, but that is LW media wishful thinking, here in Australia it has been presented like that too, but figures show globally there is no such trend.
I think Romney's running mate was too fundamentalist even for the fundies. I think people were unsure of that. He had some extremist views about abortion and women, healthcare, and so on.
I read up on him and in the US I don’t think his views are that extreme at all. Not my personal views mind you. But not extreme in context of where they come from and who he is. Globally his ideas are merely a variation on a theme.
I’ve read the stuff you posted re Ryan before. I agree, that to me his views on abortion are extremist. I’m not sure they are that extreme in the States though Annie. There are a great many more pro-lifers there, than here in Australia. Being a
DEVOUT Catholic obviously colours his thoughts on this. I disagree with his views re firearms, but unlike the States we don’t have the NRA... and many Americans,
including Democrats love their guns and demand their rights under the
CONSTITUTION to bear arms. He does oppose many Democratic “ideals” but that is no reason to label him like some kind of RW Religious kook as the Dems obviously do. If it was all true, Biden would have had an even bigger field day.
I agree with IQS, in that I have seen
no evidence that he is a Young Earther or a Creationist (by your definition), they are different things, and under your use of Creationist you include most of the world’s Christians because they believe
God is the creator, no matter what the process involved.
According to the article I posted, 41% of Democrats are Young Earthers. Pretty high percentage if you ask me.
As for mantra’s 2 cents worth...
his silence on the subject is admission enough.
Well silence on a subject could mean quite simply he doesn’t believe in it at all.
Ps. I hope you don’t want to stomp me flat
Still friends
Pss. Arsie…
As for the idiot who suggested that the outcome of any election in the USA is not directly connected to religion, well...............self evident.
I haven’t seen anyone say that so far… moron.
Could be I missed it eh.
Oh and Annie... I have trouble with the terms Evangelical and Catholic being linked. I imagine a Catholic service being totally different to an Evangelical one. But hey, I'll check it out. Might be a cultural terminology difference.
