hey brian whos side do you think the UN will be on if push comes to shove over the China Sea..

they talk about security.... WHOS do they say?..
Essentially the individual members' and hence the World's, Cods.

The UN is a collective security agency.

I am unsure why people are so worried about China's island grab in the South China Sea. China is very vulnerable to economic sanctions. All that is needed is for the West to redirect it's investments away from China to say, India. China relies on important raw materials and exported manufactured goods. If they have no source and no market, guess what happens to the Chinese economy?
Brian there is far too much starvation inequality female abuse going on all over this planet and the UN has done not a thing...
Again, as I keep pointing out, the UN has basically no power. It is a clearing house for the member states. If the member states don't want to talk about something, that something doesn't come up for discussion. It is much easier to rant about Iran than address poverty in say, Columbia or Brazil. It is easier to rant about Israel than address female inequality in say, India.
it neither stops nor chastises those responsible......a toothless tiger and very very wealthy one at that have you seen the UN BUILDING IN N.Y.

and thats just the tip of the iceberg.
The UN does not actually own the building in New York, Cods. It is held in a trust, granted by the US Government from a donation by John D. Rockefeller.
you nit pick about trivia brian......its the COST the ANNUAL COST of the UN that is outrageous.for what they do... they do NOTHING thats of note....not a bloody thing....dont you get that you go into all the historyonics ...that was THEN this is NOW.. things have changed a hell of a lot they are past their use by date if they ever had a date....useless....to b e honest if we were even in conflict I doubt anyone of us would say its OK ever fear the UN will save us.,..
You are the one who brought up the UN building in New York, Cods, not me.

I have explained, extensively, about the powers of the UN. If you wish to dispute them, take it up with the Australian Federal Government is what I would suggest. Oh, and the word is "histrionics". Things have changed, I agree but unless you know how the UN was formed you won't understand how it has got to what it is. You know, I read an article about 20 years ago which pointed out that the 1990s were generally the most successful decade the UN had ever had - it had ended more conflicts, fed more people, gotten rid of Smallpox, etc. It is interesting how short the memories of some people are.
as for the building in NY its not the only one you know and the cost of running that building would b e hugmendous...electricity alone... so much for the planet... gotta keep the UN building warm and cosy..
The buildings in New York are one of three complexes that the UN owns. The others are in Geneva and Nairobi. All are paid for by the dues paid by the member states. You want to be a member, you have to pay, Cods.
you live in the past a bit brian.. always quoting history for what its worth.....this fat cow has just got fatter as far as I am concerned......and we dont need it..... you may but I dont
I am basically a historian, Cods. If you don't understand the past, you'll never understand the present. Your problem is that you are ignorant of the past. You have no desire to learn about it and so you continually cuss the present, being unable to understand how it was created.

forgot to mention China is not some island its the AIR over the China sea......seriously you think that nothing to be concerned about..

I dont think we hold all the aces btw.
Cods, Chinese air is basically the same as everybody else's air, with of course a large quantity of pollutants and CO^2 added in.

China relies on merchant shipping and the last time I checked, ships sailed the oceans, not fly through the air. Shipping is subject to where the owners send it. If economic sanctions are brought in against China, China is stuffed. It might control the South China Sea but all the other nations are on it's periphery. They don't need to have their merchant shipping cross the South China Sea at all. All the West has to do is rattle it's sabre and the Chinese will be forced to stop it's agitation and island grabbing when it's people are starving.

Yet we are now seeing a huge rise in measles, tuberculosis etc breaking out in Sydney in the asian communities and schools. Guess where they came from?

Pretty soon all our efforts to eradicate Smallpox, polio etc will be for nought.

Smallpox now only exists in the Laboratory.

Australia was declared Rubella (Measles) free only five days ago, Black Orchid. Perhaps you need to keep up with the news a little better?

I suggest you stop letting your Xenophobia rule your thinking.

I suggest you educate yourself before stepping up on that shetland pony that you love to ride.

I said MEASLES not Rubella. Do you even realise they are different things? Rubella is commonly called German Measles and is different to Measles.
Rubella, also called German measles or three-day measles, is a contagious viral infection best known by its distinctive red rash. Rubella is not the same as measles (rubeola), though the two illnesses do share some characteristics, including the red rash.
Perhaps you need to keep up with the news a little better and before you try to condescend you should try comprehension and umm perhaps research.

The most recent (of many) outbreaks of Measles in Sydney. Measles Brian ... not Rubella ... and far more dangerous.

This from Health NSW in September ...
NSW health is advising people in South Western Sydney to be alert for symptoms of measles following diagnosis of the infection in an adult, recently returned from South-East Asia. The case spent time in Ingleburn and Liverpool, and travelled on the 852 bus route between West Hoxton and Liverpool while unknowingly infectious. A list of exposure sites and times are provided below.

Is NSW Health lying Brian? Are they being Xenophobic?

Well, there you go! You learn something new everyday. I'd always assumed that Rubella was simply Measles. I stand corrected, Black Orchid.

Of course the elimination of Rubella is a victory for Vaccination, just as Smallpox was.

Just imagine what viruses they'll bring. That's why most of the South American Indians (Natives) died out after the Conquistadors came. The Europeans introduced new types of viruses to which the Natives' immune systems could never have coped with. Same fate awaits us now.

At least you admitted you were wrong, Brian, well done.

We have eradicated many diseases and reduced others to being extremely rare yet many are now growing again in significance and mainly in highly populated asian areas/schools/communities. We often get health warnings about Tuberculosis as well as Measles.

This is not Xenophobia. It is FACT.

I am always willing to admit that I am wrong when I am proved to be wrong, Black Orchid. Something some people here need to learn.

It is Xenophobia because it centres your attention people because of their "Race" or ethnicity rather than their health, Black Orchid. Diseases don't respect people because of their supposed superiority accord to their origins.
