Do we need laws setting out Children's rights? The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child report notes Australia is ''one of the most affluent economies of the world'' but says the nation still lacks a comprehensive national law setting out children's rights.
Sounds like it may be needed juts to address the lack of balance for the indigenous children.
Why is this the case. Breast feeding is one of the most essential gifts a mother can give.''The committee is concerned that only approximately 15 per cent of all mothers continue exclusively breastfeeding until their child is six months old,'' the UN report said.
My wife breast feed our daughter for over a year. Apparently it adds up to 8 IQ points beyond the obvious immune and long term health benefits.
My sister stop after a week because it was inconvenient....
Is it a right to that a child be given every chance in life.....? .... I am not sure but it certainly is a responsibility of a parent to do so. What can you do if they don't.
Where I grew up in mid-west NSW we were clearly racist toward the local abo (that's what we called them... get over it) and their families. Today as I travel the world and I am confronted with rasist assertions of Australia I claim we are not fundamentally racist except towards our Aboriginal Australians. I see nothing has changed much over the last 30 years.''Aboriginal Australians are severely over-represented in prison, with a particularly serious overrepresentation of Aboriginal women often resulting in their children being subject to ad-hoc and insecure placement in alternative care,'' the report said.
We all know they don't get the same start in life. There are many barriers to their life chances.... it saddens me to know that nothing as or will change for a long time. I know the arguments and have seen for myself how they live and how ... bla bla.
This should be something that can be addressed... wehy is it so hard for a wealthy country that promise so much opportunity?
Wow, more adverse ecconomic impact. I know working women who milk themselves at night and maintain breastfeeding with bottles even though they go to work during tghe day. They don't need to be off work to offer this to their child.Among its recommendations, the experts have called on Australia to review the newly established Paid Parental Leave scheme and other measures
''with a view to considering amendments that would support exclusive breastfeeding for six months by working mothers''.
Why is every solution to reduce the mother to a stay at home mum....difficult times for mothers..... life was simpler when they were chained to the sink.
