Staff are protesting outside Fairfax newspaper offices as more than 800 journalists across two states strike over the organisation's decision to send local jobs offshore.

Workers in New South Wales and Victoria walked out of newsrooms yesterday after it was revealed 66 sub-editor jobs at the Newcastle Herald and Illawarra Mercury would be shipped to New Zealand.
Guess it is either Tony Abbott or Rupert Murdoch's fault. :rofl

NZ while it does realise is just another state of Australia :rofl

At least that is what I tell them here in the UK and that really pisses them off.

Offshoring is a cost reduction exercise. If you are not competitive in your local market for an activity a global coming will mve the work elsewhere. This has been the trend for the last 20 years. While call centres, software development and other industries have been doing this for a while, I am not surprised it is happening in other industries.

If you don't want this to happen you have to sort out your own local efficencies so more value is created so a hourly rate of the personnel is not the only factor being considered.

In many ways IQ is right. Protecting current work practices and trying to hold onto jobs will not work in the long run. High cost countries need to find new ways to bring value that the low cost countries cannot (not yet anyway) to keep the jobs even though there will be less individual employed in the high cost countries. Need to find a way to do more with less to remain competitive.

Yes, they have relocated back to Nazi Germany 1940 when comrades wrote/thought what they were told to write and think, no questions asked.

The Gillardtine doesn't like those who ask questions.
