Wayne Swan's pathetic attempt to get a surplus budget has meant he has omitted the future spending costs for the Great White Elephant, the NBN.
To get the surplus (of $1m) the ALP economists have simple left out the $40b for the NBN, that way the surplus objective will be achieved.


According to the ALP this method of simply erasing their expenditures from a budget means it is so easy to get a surplus.


Meanwhile, back to reality the NBN will still be a white elephant attracting mega billions, but it's all off the books

There has been little media speculation lately about the NBN. It does appear to have been shoved out of sight. Maybe they've given up because of the cost and all the opposition to it. The carbon tax has eclipsed it.

NBN will appear in the budget as investment, not expenditure. That way it doesn't divert funding from other projects. The 2 billion in projected revenue from selling NBN services will certainly appear in the budget though. That's why we pay Swannie the big bucks.

According to his Blog he has had a great time here in the National Capital ... walking everywhere (or catching ACTION, the useless bus service) ..... which is silly since parking is FREE in the Parliamentary Triangle (owned by the Federal Government) including PH, OPH, War Memorial, etc. Elsewhere you pay through the nose though.

I very much doubt that even bowing down and kissing boots would get anyone an audience with a pollie of any description. Although, on second thoughts, perhaps the ACT Assembly could be encouraged to have a photoshoot with an incoming rusted on Laborite from Adelaide? Canberra Times or ABC Canberra might even run it as their Top News of the Day.
