Matthew Newton - sick - or just a spoilt brat?

Post by mantra » Mon Apr 09, 2012 10:26 am

You have to look at the perfect Bert and Patti Newton and wonder how they had a son like Matt. He has such a long history of violent and out of control behaviour - yet he continues to wander the streets getting into trouble when life doesn't go his way. Does he ever get punished or are mum and dad paying for his high price criminal lawyer Chris Murphy to hold his hand and keep him out of jail permanently?

If he's supposed to be attending some high class rehab in the US - why is he allowed to walk the streets drunk and stoned? The media certainly don't like him and I doubt his parents do much either.

It's hard to say whether he has a mental illness or is just a wealthy addict. I'd opt for the wealthy addict - but the sooner his enablers are removed, perhaps he might learn to stand on his own two feet and grow up.

He had potential at one stage to be a good actor, but he's blown it. No-one wants to touch him now.
Claims that Matthew Newton was sober when arrested by Miami police have been disputed by Mr Moe’s bar in Miami, with the manager saying he was "obviously drunk" and the owner saying he was nursing a beer while he was arguing with police.

Mr Moe’s management said Newton started becoming loud and disruptive between 3am and 4am on Friday, with Newton refusing to leave after being given repeated warnings by uniformed Miami Police Department officers doing paid evening security work for Mr Moe’s.

He was charged with resisting police without violence and trespass, and was released from the lock-up on Saturday morning after a $2,000 bond was posted.

All of the above.

I don't doubt there are mental and addiction problems. It's a well worn path to either death or redemption. Unfortunately for him, he's in the media's glare. Every time he fucks up in public, we'll know every sordid detail.

Being forgiven, or "understood", on the smaller things, or first offences, however, just seems to encourage some people to continue on. Perhaps some people are immune to shame, or self regulation?

I wouldn't consider Bert and Patti 'perfect'. Perfect how so? I would consider them normal parents trying to protect their out of control son

He appears Bi-Polar to me. Just look at his eyes. They aren't right

Which raises the question about Bi-Polar or whatever they decide to call it now. Why are there so many people who supposedly suffer this condition now? Everyone grew up with someone in the neighbourhood who wasn't 'right' but nowadays the numbers are escalating. Or seem to be

Bert and Pattie exude a squeaky clean image. It possibly is fake. The daughter is in their image - you could imagine that Matt would be the spoilt little brother. Even if he is sick - sick people don't generally beat up females and old men.

His eyes definitely aren't normal or focused - but that's also a sign of someone with a serious addiction. I agree that mental illness is on the rampage today - but then alcohol and drug abuse is also very common now. Minds are fragile and mood altering drugs cause dramatic changes over a long period of time. When we were younger - bars closed early and there was a lot of negative emphasis on alcoholism generally - nor were drugs as prevalent. Addiction wasn't accepted the way it is now.

A stint in gaol might help him.

I think he's a spoilt brat. he's been given more chances than most and still doesn't take them. 12 months in Long bay will sort him out.

He won't go to jail. It's unsurprising how little you are punished when you have influential family and friends. Suddenly the footage of Newton's last tantrum at a bar has disappeared as well as the charge sheet. Newton - although we know he has beaten up two girlfriends, has never been convicted of assault.

The more he allows himself to be protected - the more people will dislike him. His cowardice has cost him his acting career, which at one time had the potential to be good.

How convenient things and people have disappeared/gone missing. You're right, Mantra, in that his acting career had potential, it's a pity he's just a spoilt brat with an over inflated ego and heightened belief of entitlement. His bloated face tells it's own sorry story, and there's more to come before he grows the hell up. To protect mummy and daddy's good name though, many palms must be greased.

IF the kid had half a brain his parents surely would have directed him into some other "career". Acting may earn money but it is full of nutters. The fact that Bert and Patty are "entertainers" is a clue ............
