Meh. A number of presidents since JFK have made similar pronouncements that have come to nothing. Just a vote-getter. In Newt's case however he does actually have an interest in science and space exploration.Super Nova wrote:Is this good politics in the US?AiA in Atlanta wrote:Newt Gingrich was a real friend of science before running for president then later backed off as not to scare the religious folk but his aim of a moon base is probably part JFK grandstanding and part Newt the Science Nerd.

If Donald Trump is so close to the Ruskis, why couldn't he get Vladimir Putin to put novichok in Xi Jjinping's lipstick?

A NASA guy explaining what it really was (via sssf). Check the video of it happening at around 2.20, and you'll see it's nothing like a deathstar (put yer shades on, though, and +100000 sunblock

How does a country in so much debt make such ridiculous promises? Although like the rest of the world I believed that the US put men on the moon, I'm cynical today especially when the old video footage was sent to Disneyland for touchup and the space rocks conveniently disappeared.
Still America leads the way on fantasy and perhaps those who are well off believe that borrowed trillions should be invested in a new joy ride for them. Forget about the other half living on unemployment and food stamps and the fact that one day their creditors will demand payment and other nations will be pulling the strings.
Gringrich should have promised them a state of the art mint instead to print their paper money out even faster than it currently is. At least that's practical to a small extent.

I think that we don't have a long term future if we don't embrace space and start migrating off this rock.mantra wrote:How does a country in so much debt make such ridiculous promises? The purpose of life is to propogate the species not keep every individual alive.
The sad reality is that we are over populating the planet, however there is enough food and water... we just mismanage this. A new world order is needed and will be imposed on us at some point.
Spending all our resources just to keep the living alive without investing in the future of our species is just wrong.
We need to invest, we need to be bold and go where no-one has gone before.
If we don't there will be no-one in the long term.
The US has debt problems.... that is a manmade construct.... there is no debt in nature. There is only the here and now and a resource base to continue life. If that resource base changes or is restricted, adapt or die out. We should focus on not dying out... not keeping every individual alive.
Who will be the brave politician to drive this?

Mattus,
I think you are right. The Chinese are the only ones with the right culture and centralised government not bound by silly things like individualism and human rights to make this happen.
The future is bright for the chinese DNA.
