Tasering

Post by mantra » Tue Mar 20, 2012 5:20 am

Another victim bites the dust in Sydney this morning. A shirtless male allegedly stole a packet of biscuits. Six police pursued him, but seemed reluctant to tackle him, although they were close enough to do so. Instead they chose to taser him at least 3 times and pepper spray him.

Of course his heart stopped and he couldn't be revived.

You can understand two police or perhaps a lone policeman/woman resorting to tasering if they believed the person was armed and dangerous - but 6 cowardly police within inches of this bloke, is just overkill.

There will be questions raised and hopefully a review of using a taser as a first response rather than a last response.

An absolute disgrace and abuse of power.

If he wasnt armed, and was deemed no threat to members of the public and could be perused alternatively, then you've got to ask, why wasnt he? Were the police cripples?

I think some cops are getting a little trigger happy with these taser guns, lazy also.... as though they were a new toy and an alternative to 'actual' policing.

When was the last time we hung someone for stealing a loaf of bread again?

Brazilian student Roberto Laudisio named by Brazilian newspaper as the Sydney Taser victim.

Also, it's alleged he was kicked by a female police officer whilst down on the ground during the ordeal.

Come to Australia and study, I think not.
Laudisio's friends do not believe it's him on the footage. They think the guy on the video is probably the one accused of robbery. His friends also believe he was caught mistakenly when arriving at home.

Roberto Laudisio studied English at a Bondi school and was planning to start uni in Sydney still this year.

Mantra, translate this page from Portuguese to English, then watch the footage here.

I'm going to do an Aussie now. What buttons do I press to translate it?

When you click on the link, your browser should give you the option to translate.

If you have any troubles, you can still watch the footage, this and cut and paste the article into google translator manually here...

http://translate.google.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Which would probably be a better translation anyway. 8-)

No it doesn't unfortunately. I might have put in too much security or ticked the wrong boxes when I set up this computer.

Regardless of their excuses they've stuffed up. I'm horrified and the footage is a joke. Those police chasing him looked like the Keystone cops.

Thanks Mel. That worked well. I saw the video footage earlier. It's not as though he was even running that fast, but the police seemed scared of touching him until it was too late.

Hopefully someone will answer to this and they won't attempt to cover it up. It would be difficult anyway - the video says it all.

His friends and family (after receiving reports from witnesses) believe it to be a case of mistaken identity, this and think they boot-bashed, tasered and pepper sprayed the wrong guy who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

His family and friends are saying that police allegedly got him down on the ground out the front of his home, (was possibly just coming home) which is a fair distance from the convenience store footage you just saw.

What took them so long, were they intentionally rounding the culprit up and into a 'quieter' location away from cameras so they could try out their new taser toys santa gave them for Xmas?

Then when he (possibly the real offender) got away they perused the next best thing instead perhaps?

After he was kicked and tasered by police the first time, the boy cried out for help.

What a terrible death, imagine if this were your child in the prime of their life being murdered by police.

I couldn't care less if he was responsible for stealing a packet of biscuits or a car, (which I doubt given witnesses said he had nothing on his person) ...perhaps he ate them on the run--wry smirk!

The cops wanted to try out their new toys, their tasers and pepper sprays, it's as simple as that.
Why wait for him to run to a discrete location before executing force?

Because they didn't want to be 'seen' using excessive force or else between the 6 of them, they would have managed the situation without it as can be demonstrated by the fact that they were close enough to him at least at one point to do so according to the CCTV footage we have just seen.

His family have hired a legal team to get to the bottom of it, and I would still like to know why the female police officer, the sow, saw fit to kick the suspect while he was on the ground.

Questions surrounding the entire incident are being asked as we speak, sadly, I think it's a case of our police behaving more like hoodlums and street-thugs (if not pack-animals on the hunt) than those they profess to be taking into custody.

Nothing excuses this atrocity, the whole thing smacks of crap.

Remember this back in 2010?

http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/39674.html

It's claimed some 99.7% of individuals who get tasered survive, this said, can anyone point me to the figures re- taser usage and survival stats?

Take a look at this footage Mantra, turns out the culprit was tasered 24 times in total.
