Spam - don't you love it

I recieve a lot of spam these days on my hotmail and yahoo accounts.

They get more creative everyday hiowever this one I particularly like because it has all the major warnings to it.

1. I don't use paypal
2. It has an attachment that should not be opened
3. I bet the attachment asked fro all your credit card details and inserts software onto your system
4. No company would send such a mail - certainly not paypal.

I really believe there are people who would fall for this one.

Do you guys have any that beats this one for being the most dangerous combined with a feeling the stupid would actually fall for it.

2. The URL on the hypertext link sends you nowhere near yourtube.

I expect everyone here understands to see the real link you view the properties of a hyperlink before pressing it.

This will get a few people as well. The link looks real as it is the hypertext (the text you see) that looks real but the underlying link is rarely checked.

Get gmail. It handles the spam a lot better. I can set up ozpolitic email accounts for anyone who is interested. These are gmail based.

If you have a spam filter on that does not allow any code in the email to run unless from a trusted source there is no issue. I have mine set to ask me if there is anything to open or run. I always answer no.

No risk if you only view the text.

Maybe it's the telco you're with. That was happening to me at one time and I changed telco's a few years ago and haven't had spam since, although it might change as Optus is going to outsource a thousand or so jobs soon.

I think you mean ISP, Mantra. Changing from Bigpond to Optus as your "telco" might have fixed your problem. I use Telstra as my "telco" (for my landline) but I do NOT use either Bigpond or Optus as my ISP and never, ever, get spam.

I've always used the same telco for internet and landline - so I've thrown them under the same umbrella. I used to get a lot of nuisance calls from Telstra prior to the spam which became very prolific - so it's possible it does actually stem from the telco particularly if you've signed up for one of their packages.
