What is going on in Australia at the moment.
Is Alan Joyce right, are the unions on there way back or is all this just bullshit.
If the unions get any control over the ecconomy Australia will erode it's competitive position. It's been doing OK compared to Europe.
Alan Joyce in call to fight 'bully' unions

QANTAS chief executive Alan Joyce has accused "bullying" unions of trying to unwind measures that have made Australia an open and competitive economy, and warned that a protectionist push by the labour movement could lead to more corporate failures and job losses.
"Some of the union movement in this country do not realise how open the world has become, how global we've become, how competitive it's become," Mr Joyce told The Australian.

The unions were emasculated under Howard. At the moment they are holding onto their power desperately. There is a need for unions still - but they're not trusted and that's easy to understand. All we hear about is their corruption.
If we don't have unions - then we'll become little better than a developing country. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground.

Quantas will continue to increase it's outsourced labour/services, and will continue to expect the unions to STFU about it, to protect the few jobs they do allow Australians to hold on to.
It's hard to feel sympathy for corporate sharks.

I doubt too many of us feel sympathetic towards the corporate sharks - aside from our layers of government of course who believe they are essential for a good economy regardless of the destruction they leave behind when they go bust or depart.
It is the union members who are often exploited and promised security. This rarely eventuates except for the public service, but employees still pay their dues usually through fear or because it's compulsory.
