Anybody else collect porcelain or fine earthen ware?

I would love some good hard paste porcelain but not too much of it available, Desden figurines etc but very expensive and not really my taste. I have got one piece of Dresden, a fat baker’s boy that is nice. Haven’t been able to trace the mark tho—might see if the library I volunteer in has some books.

I also try to increase the number of pieces of Australian pottery I have.

Back in the 80s when I owned a big bluestone villa on the south coast one set of tenants were potters who made some interesting pieces, still have some of that around somewhere. One piece they made, for fun, three flying hippopotami to mock the three flying ducks so boringly ubiquitous then.

I have been given plenty of Delft blue china, monochrome (blue) hand painted porcelain which I am not that fond of but there you go.

I have some Old Tupton Ware which is rather nice and not expensive and you might like the designs since you like flowers.

They're lovely vases Neferti - although I'm not keen on figurines. I've got a large porcelain geisha girl which my mother always said was valuable - but it's as ugly as sin. It's packed away with boxes of chrystal and other ancient bits and pieces. I tell my daughter never to throw this stuff out - the way my mother told me not to, for what reason I'm not sure as generation Y aren't as materialistic as their parents and none of this stuff is practical - although it might be sentimental or hold some financial value for them one day.

I used to collect old English China at one time, but most of the plates eventually got used as pet food bowls or sugar bowls. I've still got some old teapots and tiered plates somewhere. I found a lovely plate with a hand painted gold rim when I dug in the garden the other day. It must have been buried there for more than a decade.

Those are nice Neferti, you even have a floral painted ginger jar!

Fine porcelain increases in price with time.

The only one I have of those pictured is the top little jug thing which is only about 8 cms tall and cost me about $50, think. I am not really into "ornaments" (dust collectors) but some friends have given me a few different bits of Old Tupton Ware as birthday and Christmas gifts and I bought a nice display cabinet a few years ago. I have some Old Tupton Ware figurines which are about 25 cms tall, not as fussy as the Dresden stuff. Plus have a few other bits and pieces, some stuff that belonged to my mother who collected antiques.

If interested check this site. Lots of pretty stuff and not very common in Australia (yet). I had to make some phone calls when I wanted to get another piece of it. There are cute little honey pots and all.
