So why didn't the trustees hand the cash over?

If you have ever dealt with the Public Trustees - you would know that they don't turn cash over to the recipient easily. It takes a very strong person and a lot of determination to get them to even release a few cents from their grasp.

Perhaps Qld is different to NSW - I dealt with the NSW Public Trustee & Guardianship Board many years ago and was horrified. The person whose money they had grabbed was left starving for 3 days through their negligence and greed. Not only does the recipient have to have the wherewithal to ask in a suitable manner for some cash, they also have to justify what they want to spend it on.

The NSW Public Trustee has changed its name now (forgotten what it is) to something softer and more personal because of the thousands and thousands of complaints lodged against them. If you're one of those rare people who manages to get them to release any large sums of cash - they take their fees as well as up to 15% of every cent they have grabbed.

No matter how ill you get - friends and relatives should not allow the Public Trustee to "guard" the victim's cash.

I assume Qld would have a similar protocol to NSW, so unless Aussie is a close relative, his efforts to help this man will be in vain.
