The whole situation is pretty absurd. We beat them at war, then set up a democracy for them so they could take back control of their country, and they spit the dummy. They are even slughtering fellow afghans to stop democracy. It kind of makes divide and conquer pretty easy to pull off. Instead of trying to bring down America they are trying to bring down their own democratic system. Once again the fighting is contained to the lunatic backwaters of the muslim crescent. No other losers in history have been let off so easily and then tried so impotently to get revenge.

The west tries to have the high moral ground and has no appreciation for the root cause of the conflict. The problem is it is not a real nation they are at war with. So who are we defeating.

When at war, we send in young men to kill or be killed. You have to demonise the enemy to get the right behavour. Pissing on the dead that tried to kill you is a reflection of the mental state our soliders are in. How can we punish them for a little relief. Pun intended.

I am arguing for balance. We send our men in to kill or be killed. They must overcome their humanity to demonise the enemy. They were out of line. The mistake was filming it.

When have we taken those that kill our solders and drag them though the streets, strip them and do horrable things to their bodies. Never.

We need to be balanced. A PR disaster is not the same as a war crime. Dead is dead.

For troops without innate sociopathic traits to be effective, you need to dehumanise the enemy, or they get guilt trips and go mad. This is why crims make the best soldiers, because they are willing to breach social conditioning. Most individuals need to be brainwashed into believing the opponents are sub human. To me, urinating on the corpse of a mortal opponent is not offensive, but urinating on a captured enemy would be. Provided I don't hate them.

My experience of having opponents trying to kill me, and in turn I intending to kill them, alters my state of mind. Social norms mean nothing other than a facade that I must pretend to adhere to, in order to succeed, which means concealing the hate. Once I've spent a prolonged period where priorities are based on instink, trying to conform with moralistic society makes me cranky and burns me out.

If these guys who urinated on those they were conditioned to regard as scum and risk their own lives to counter are penalised for their actions, they will become contemptuous of their own people.

I find this utterly disturbing, and think the concept of our installing a democracy was an excuse.

US troops are animals, do we really want them here in Australia infecting our's with what ever disease it is they have?

Time we sent the US troops back to where they came from, I don't want this muck corrupting our diggers.

I agree. The war was a farce anyway and was only instigated because the big boys wanted their oil and gas pipeline to be built without too much hindrance.

At least 50 thousand people have been killed and another 50 thousand maimed while a whole country is bombed to bits so the Yank corporations can continue to increase their obscene profits. We know that Afghanistan has a US puppet government making a pretense at democracy so the gullible will continue to believe it is a moral war and all about us and them.

We've seen the photos of the humiliating and cruel attrocities committed in Abu Ghraib, Iraq by American soldiers - so we shouldn't be surprised that these same marines would show the same contempt for dead Afghani soldiers.
