Well I wanted to get him a new bike as his old one is getting a bit small but he didn't want one. He wanted a couple of new nerf guns( he already has one but wanted some other models as well as extras for when he has mates here) a remote control helicopter( again, he has one but wanted this particular one as it has a crane attached) he is also getting some X box games and a couple of DS games as well as a few other bits and pieces. I was lucky to get the helicopter, it was the last one in the shop after I'd been to all the other toy stores and they'd sold out. He already has more presents than I ever got from seeing one of his grandmothers and uncle and aunt last week. So he should be happy, he got everything on his wish list plus more.

Yea, pretty much, the kids of today have so much compared to when I was a kid. My kid is probably spoilt as well being an only child. He has two big tubs of lego that he never plays with unless one of his mates who is right into it comes over, he had so much of the stuff I culled some of it and sold it on E bay, he got a few hundred bucks out of that and went out and spent it on X box and DS games. Thats what he's really into. He has so many "toys" for outdoor use, trampolines bikes everything he's asked for, but hardly ever uses them, he'd much prefer to play a computer game. I would have loved to have lived on a property like we have when I was a kid, exploring everywhere, but he may as well live in an apartment for what he enjoys. Although he does like flying his planes and helicopters outside,and having nerf gun fights with his mates, which having a farm comes in handy for and he likes the beach, so he gets out a bit.

Some of us would remember the bleak little array of presents we would get as kids. Anything major like a second hand bike would last all of your childhood. I can remember packets of cotton hankies & paints which I thought were wonderful. My kids would have scoffed at them, although 20 years ago when they were little - there was nowhere the technology or variety of games we have today. I think Sega was the game machine of the day - then Nintendo 2. There were maybe half a dozen games available, if that.

Now you can drive around the streets after Xmas and find thousands of dollars worth of bikes, scooters, discarded board games, computers, swings, slippery dips etc. being thrown out as garbage. Generation Z is going to be more materialistic and unappreciative than Generation Y.

Do kids these days even know what we're supposed to celebrate at Christmas.

I think Sega was the game machine of the day

Yea I had a sega mega drive, my mates and I used to have games nights where we'd play golf for hours, and that was when I was in my twenties, no wonder my son is so addicted to the things, I was no better really.

I'm glad my son didn't become addicted to games, although my daughter was for a while. She had all the Sims City Games, plus Sims 2 and a host of others - today, all sitting on top of a cupboard gathering dust. I will never understand how anyone can sit still for hours on end staring at a screen and play computer games.
