I agree with you, Nef! The only solution I can see is to take the legal status of "religion" away from Islam, and declare it a cult.
That way, muslims could not demand "legal freedom to practice religion" in the sense they are doing now. They would be limited to practice of their beliefs privately in their homes, but not in public places or businessness. They would be stopped from spreading and ultimately infiltrating their sharia law into our legal system, as well.
But of course it would be unthinkable to declare Islam a cult, I can't even imagine the uproar that would follow!

That would be impossible. Muslims now outnumber Christians globally. There must be some appeal in Islam for it to be so widely embraced. The majority of Muslims appear to be gentle ordinary people and have the same goals and aspirations as anyone else. Unfortunately Islamic nations appear to be exploited and controlled by a minority who seem to have taken control and put their own twist on it. Our interference (Coalition of the Willing) certainly hasn't helped the plight of the downtrodden.
