Australia losing it's grip to emerging economies
A SKILLS shortage of 150,000 workers by 2015 is threatening to derail the Australian economy, according to the nation's richest person, Gina Rinehart.
Ms Rinehart, speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Perth, said the resources sector could lose market share to other countries if new exploration incentives are not introduced and costs continue to rise.
The Hancock Prospecting chairwomen said Australia should not rest on its laurels because emerging economies, such as Africa, were ready to fill the gap.
The mining billionaire said the excessive cost of regulation in Australia was hampering exploration, which was vital for the future extensions of mines.
``You've always got to remember we're not the only people with commodities,'' Ms Rinehart told the Commonwealth Business Forum in Perth on Wednesday.
`There are new frontiers opening up which have much much lower costs than Australia, so it's not really a good time to keep looking at ways to make costs higher and higher.
``If our costs get out of kilter through excessive taxation, through excessive regulation and other high costs we already have, this is just making it more difficult.''
She said resource investment in Australia was buoyant but ``we've got to keep the investment happening''.
``And you can't say things like the carbon tax, MRRT (Mineral Resources Rent Tax), excessive cost of regulation on particularly small companies ... you can't say that isn't affecting exploration, which is vital.''
Ms Rinehart warned of a major and imminent skills shortage, and in Western Australia's resources-rich north in particular, with projections of a 150,000 person shortfall by 2015.

Normally I would say that if the mining industry needs more skilled workers then it should pay to train people but considering that they provide billions to various state and federal governments in royalties and taxes, the government should have more than enough to start providing adequate training to people desiring new skills and support the mining industry. Unfortunately Gillard would rather spend the money on fattening up more bureaucrats and propping up failed renewable energy schemes.

Gillard is doing everything to kill the mining, manufacturing, housing and agricultural industries.
As such we will be importing a lot more - thanks to the rancid ranga!
Watch as our BoP goes through the roof.

Some argue Labors policies are clumsy and short sighted, I beg to differ.
I believe they have intentionally set out to destroy, whittle away at our economy in order to make way for a Eurasian communist NWO, complete with NWO tax and global currency, 'Carbons'.
GALP together with WTO have set about destroying our nations capacity to sustain itself independently ... to the NWO.

Anyone can install spell-check, but not everyone can think for themselves, hence you spend your days being a neerf.

You lack the capacity to both think for yourself and critically evaluate your own content.
After all, one cant preach what they have yet to learn/understand themselves, as has been demonstrated by your relentless attacking/trolling of others who do.
We are all entitled to an opinion, or do you believe otherwise?
Of which in itself is counter-productive when it comes to encouraging constructive debate and opinion on a political forum such as this.
Pull your head in Nerf, you are fast becoming the forum thought police, this and are putting people off, or was this your objective?

Feel free to correct my writing style and spelling Nerf, though you don't have to be catty or snide about mine and or others political lean/ views, simply because you are of a different political persuasion.

Re: Australia losing it's grip to emerging economies
You remind me of Gillard the work-place grammar Nazi over-compensating with grammar and spelling/punctuation due to her SA Strine, something she's quite embarrassed about and apologises for I believe.
Recall when she apologised for her "dreadful Australian accent" during her visit to New Zealand. ... Though an apology to the Australian people wouldn't go astray.
Don't go out in the wind Nerf.

I'll bet you flap/bang/talk/sound like a Fitzroy fish-wife scrubber too.

Now why on earth would an Australian PM apologise for her "dreadful Australian accent" during her visit to New Zealand?
Not very patriotic is she.
