We might have crossed paths Neferti. I lived in Turramurra for a good part of the early 70's. Everyone was the same back then - white, Christian and comfortable and definitely unreceptive to anyone different. It sounds as though it hasn't changed that much. I can imagine the Jewish community will have quite a battle on their hands trying to divide the suburb up.

Did you shop at the St Ives Shopping Centre? Did you see me in my Tennis Outfit dropping in for a pint of milk after a game of tennis? Blonde, great body and tanned? Other times I wandered in wearing my Riding Outfit, after a brisk canter on my horse .......... it was a snobbish place and very Nouveau Rich ........ I'd come from Brighton in Melbourne where all the Old Money was, so St Ives seemed awfully false to me. Still, nice, leafy suburb.mantra wrote:We might have crossed paths Neferti. I think that Jews in Australia are a very minor group. Check the last Census and I think the amount of Jews here would be around 1% of the population ....... nothing to get worried about, since they don't breed like the Muslims.

Yes - my best friend lived in St. Ives. I didn't notice what women were wearing back then. You wouldn't have noticed me either. I would have been wearing a hitched up box pleat school uniform, witches britches (to hide my suspenders), hat and gloves. Haha.Neferti~ wrote:

Some Jewish families are huge, but generally they don't breed as prolifically as Muslim families. It's still wrong to segregate parts of Sydney. There is an eruv in Bondi and more of them are planned in the immediate area so they must have some influence in high places regardless of them only representing 1% of the population.
An eruv was installed in the eastern suburbs - along the promenade at Bondi Beach - in 2002. Another is planned for Randwick and Maroubra.
A spokesman for the Northern Eruv project, David Guth, said 85 per cent of the 20 kilometre perimeter was in place in the form of electric cables and poles.

The move could boost the chances of recognition for a Palestinian state at the wider UN and will give Palestinians the right to nominate ancient cultural sites for inclusion on the world heritage register.
But the vote in Paris has angered Israel and the United States and both countries consider the peace process is now more in danger than ever.

It's about time!!
What would Israel and the US know about peace?
And when will the UN add Palestine? Or is this just a fake carrot to appease the war?

Will Palestine be entering the Olympics?
Will Palestine be recognised as a country?
