Expectations of a Greener government

Post by mellie » Fri Oct 28, 2011 2:39 pm

Whilst I didn't vote GALP, I did have a short list of minimal and 'positive' expectations I did expect to see as a result of our having a greener government.

1- Banning plastic supermarket bags.

2- Exposing big polluters noncomplying with health and environmental legislation.Ie, BHP down in Olympic Dam, and Orica's hexavalent chromium leak over Stockton near New Castle in August ....
ENVIRONMENT Minister Robyn Parker should have told Stockton residents about the Orica chemical spill sooner instead of making a statement in parliament three days after the critical incident, a government-commissioned report has found.

3- Exposing the ongoing disadvantage and exploitation of our indigenous and disadvantaged communities..(Bob was afterall a Dr, before he was a Politician).

And so much more....

If Greens are so powerful, this and wield the balance of power in the senate, then why are they doing fuck all to bring about meaningful environmental change?

They seem to be more about Gay rights, refugees globalisation,a NWO and poker machines these days.

If they can introduce a carbon tax 70+% of the country is opposed to, then why cant they ban plastic supermarket bags?

Or is it that we don't want to piss off the Asian nations we import them from to harm our environment with?

How many nations world wide have banned the free distribution of plastic supermarket bags in their supermarkets compared to nations who have daringly introduced a carbon-tax?

Australia should be manufacturing their own biodegradable reusable bags, why aren't we?

We are products of our environment, Greens should be actively involving themselves in food quality standards and demanding , not recommending, DEMANDING more stringent food and environmental testing, and demanding better product labeling.

You know, If Greens were actually doing something meaningful to make-up for the Carbon-tax crunch, I might be more sympathetic to their cause.

What have we benefited from a greener government?

Promises promises...

Labor fails pledge on plastic bags

WHILE the Federal Government champions itself as a saviour of the Earth in its fight to introduce a carbon tax, another of its key environmental promises has been left blowing in the wind.

Kevin Rudd and Peter Garrett vowed in the 2007 election campaign, and after they became prime minister and environment minister, to ban non-degradable plastic bags.

They were bullish, warning they'd do so "with a legislative ban if necessary".

But nothing happened and since their hollow words about 18 billion plastic bags have ended up in landfill or been scattered by the wind and littered the Australian landscape and coastal waters, says Jon Dee, Do Something! founder and, for a decade, Australia's leading advocate of a ban on non-degradable plastic bags.

Mr Dee said the 18 billion bags is an estimate because collecting of data on plastic bag use in Australia stopped in the year Mr Rudd and Mr Garrett gained power. "This lack of data collection has shown how badly they've dropped the ball on reducing plastic bag use," he said.

"Mr Garrett's actions were most disappointing; his promises came to nothing and that attitude has continued," Mr Dee said.

"It all fell apart at Garrett's first meeting with state environment ministers when Labor gained power.

Sadly I have to agree with you, although there was a suggestion made today that we should just legislate gay marriage and get it over and done with. It really isn't going to affect anyone else in a negative way. If this is out of the way - then perhaps the Greens can start shouting louder about environmental issues.

They are still doing more for the environment than any other political party at present and are right up there trying to stop these out of control oil and gas exploration leases and mines. NSW and Queensland now have tens of thousands of bores and when they're finished we won't have any water that isn't contaminated nor any healthy agricultural land. The farmers are being ruined by these foreign organisations invading their land and neighbouring properties.

I dont know about that mantra, the greens have seemingly stopped hugging trees, rather are now hugging refugees and their corporate donors.

Bob Brown received the largest single political donation any Australian politician has ever received, in the lead-up to the 2010 election.

But what has he done with it?

It seems to have purchased his silence more than anything else.

ONE of Australia's most successful dotcom entrepreneurs has branded the National Broadband Network a potential "$43 billion hi-tech .

Wotif neither of them give a stuff about anything but themselves are too busy promoting themselves in a globalist new world order?

Graeme Wood is an arse-hat, as is Bob Brown.

He hasn't said much on the NBN front lately.... could it be that he's had a change of heart?

A little about the guy who bankrolled Greens to a senatory victory.

What news?

Exactly, other than censored GALP socialist propaganda.

He's gone from peddling holidays to news overnight! Amazing, and now he dines with the Queen.

Thats one way of breaking into a highly competitive online media industry... is it me, or has his google ranking soared since the 2010 election?

And like Bob Brown, he's been rather quiet on the environmental front, except when it has something to do with pushing their globalist eco-socialist enterprising adventure.

Why is capitalising from bad social policy ok if you happen to bat for the left and hug a few trees along the way?

Does this make a left right?

Mantra, whats the most significant thing Bob Brown has achieved 'environmentally' here in Australia since the 2010 election?
