Gillard will be responsible for as big a change to the economy as Keating was.

We start our journey to an economy based on low carbon Jun next year. The mining tax will make small businesses more competitive. Huge reforms to health and education, plain packaging of cigarettes etc etc. The NBN will have advanced too much to stop it, we will have a totally 21st century communication system. The huge windback of middleclass welfare, tax reform, paid maternity and paternity leave for all

None of these changes will be undone.

In that light, if Labor were to lose in 2013, well, we have done our best for the economy and the progressive cause so too bad.

With a new Long Depression looming on the horizon the powerful economic team of Abbott/Hockey/Robb will soon have the economy in a huge mess.

Gillard will come to be seen as the most reformist and progressive PM in decades, when Howard is forgotten except for trivia quiz questions re PMs losing their seats.

The prosperity Australia enjoyed from the 90's is due to the Keating reforms to the economy.

The reforms drivien/implemented by Gillard & Swan will set the economy up for the next 20-30 years.

Those people losing their big houses, when did they buy those houses? During the H&C period. Just borrow up big, everything will be fine! things weren't fine. The deficits we face now, mostly due to Costello and his endless tax cuts for the rich.

But the econoimy will survice the Long Depression OK and will zoom once that is passed.
