it's fine to start a thread on a specific incident like this, especially where it has the potential to be quite a landmark case.

It's a legal ruling Aussie and there is no appropriate thread in politics - only some obscure link you posted. What's wrong with it being here in Off Topic? This forum doesn't just have to accommodate whinging threads. It never used to. There is no admin/mod at present - maybe tomorrow there will be someone to split it.

Obviously this judgment will set a precedent to restrict what we say the future. It will silence debate and freedom of expression as we have known it. Bolt may have been a little over the top - but he is being punished because a Judge found that his comments 'weren't written with a genuine public interest in mind'. As if journalists stick to that format as a rule! Mostly their articles are just an expression of their personal views.
