As far as the rest of your post goes - I agree. She should have toughened up by now - but even if she had successfully implemented the government's policies, she would have still had to jump higher to prove her worth than any male primeminister. We live in a sexist society - that's just how it is, and even today in the 21st century females aren't paid an equal wage to males for doing the same work. Women's liberation was never as successful as it has been portrayed.

She can't do the job obviously, but she started at a disadvantage anyway because of her gender.
I find the Bishop comment strange given she is childless.

Equal pay is another issue. I could argue the point on that all day long. Perhaps another time!

I think a lot of the fugures in the polls are soft.

Driving from North coast NSW to North coast Qld there is a lot of support for the pokies move. whether ABC or commercial, AM or FM callers to radio stations were positive.

Like with the "carbon tax" of lot of lies, of fear mongering has been done about the pokies measure.

When both come into force they will be nowhere near as bad as the organised hysteria has made out.

Yes, those 9,700 people who just lost their jobs are ecstatic!

Unemployment rises amid growing consumer gloom

Australia’s unemployment rate unexpectedly rose to 5.3% in August, with consumer confidence now at a record low, separate grim new figures have revealed.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 9,700 jobs were lost last month, defying economists’ predictions that more than 10,000 jobs would be created.

I wake up and Labor is still the govt and Julia is still PM. All is right with the world!

With the NBN and the ETS soon both going fullbore new, skilled jobs will be being created, and the MRRT and its lower company tax should make business more ready to hire.

The end of relentless negativity from Tone and the Libs would also help generate some confidence.

When you have to wheel out mummy and daddy to stick up for you, you know you have lost the fight.

How fucking embarrassing. What next? Julia having a big old public sobbing about how mean everyone is?

Toughen up sweetheart

EMBATTLED Prime Minister Julia Gillard's parents have made an impassioned plea for the nation to trust their daughter.

At their modest home in Adelaide's southern suburbs, John and Moira Gillard yesterday downplayed a series of damaging polls - including this week's quarterly Newspoll that shows even the PM's Victorian stronghold has fallen, with the Coalition leading 51-49 per cent in two-party terms, reported the Herald Sun.

Hopes were pinned on her being competent, practical and having a natural ability to understand the people - but she's been a big disappointment to a majority of Australians - men and women alike.

Initially it was easy to believe that Abbott's hounding, stalking and constant denigration was a deterrant to her duties and making her too nervous and defensive, but she's had time to overcome that. She seems to have lost her way altogether.

When will Australia ever again be prepared to take on another female primeminister? Ten years, twenty years?
I have never, ever been a "feminist". I am an individual. YOU are the feminist, Mantra.

I have always thought that women should be able to make their own choices and they have been able to do so for decades. Burning your bra just made a show of it and didn't change anything. It just got the males offside.

In Australia, we still do NOT vote for the Prime Minister. This is not America. We vote for someone in our area to represent us in PARLIAMENT.

Australia has NEVER voted for a female PM. Remember that Jules stabbed KRudd?

Should Julie Bishop take over from Tony Abbott - for whatever reason - and there is a Federal Election, I will STILL vote for my local representative (Joe Blow) and if we end up with a FEMALE PM, so be it.

Speculating about a person before they attain the position is pointless.

Get a grip, Mantra, you seem to have gone feral. :hot

Read the post properly Neferti - I made a tongue in cheek comment about Women's Lib.

What? How is that comment feral? That's a pathetic response Neferti.
