Abbas Says Palestinians Will Demand Full U.N. Membership at Security Council
The Palestinian president announced Friday that he will seek statehood through the Security Council at the United Nations next week, a move strongly opposed by Israel and the United States and likely to provoke a major conflict over how to resolve one of the most intractable issues in the Middle East.
The announcement by the president, Mahmoud Abbas, in a speech delivered at his headquarters in Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, was the first time he has so explicitly and publicly endorsed such a strategy, which Palestinian officials have been moving toward for months as their frustration over stalled peace talks with Israel has intensified. American and Israeli diplomats had struggled to dissuade Mr. Abbas and his aides from such a step.

Is it going to get through against US Opposition? Should it get through? What borders? What about Jerusalem, especially east Jerusalem? Israel is likely to face more random missile attacks but Israelis won't be able to create new settlements in the West Bank.
Unravelling this mess would tax the patience of Job.

It wont get through, the US has said it will use its veto powers. I think it is difficult to have a state when you cant decide whom is the government in the autonomous area you already have. Hamas or the other lot. Also one is a noted terror organisation might also be a (slightly large barrier)!!!

The funny thing is that the jews and the palestinians are related. They come from the same stock!! It is the best example of family fueding in recent memory. I dont think the fight has much to do about religion, it is the smokescreen that is used by power hungry people to get more and deprive others os some.

It's incredible isn't it that both groups have descended from Abraham. It is about religion though. The Jews have always proclaimed themselves to be superior to the Muslims (and Christians). What they haven't attained through being clever and cunning, they've taken by force.
The Palestinians have been promised their State for far too long and shouldn't have to suffer any more subjugation. The Israelis have encroached on their territory for decades. They were warned years ago to stop building new homes along the Gaza strip, but have just ignored UN and international pleas. If borders are defined - perhaps the Israelis might have to experience a dose of the medicine they dished out to the Palestinians 60 years ago and return their illegally claimed land.
